TOPIC: True ‘Revival’ – the PROVING of the WORTHINESS of those “SEEKING glory, honour, immortality, eternal life” (Rom 2:6-13), by their willingness to be fully consecrated to the holy work of “continuance” in adhering to “the Way of YHVH,” to be ELIGIBLE to claim the glory of participation in the Resurrection to Life, as blessed and holy, true and faithful sons (Is 64:5; Matt 19:16,17; Lk 10:25-28; 20:21,35; Rom 8:4,23; 2 Cor 5:9-11; Rev 3:4,10; 14:12; 17:14; 20:6)

38 precepts await us in Deut 21:10 – 25:19, some seemingly incongruous in our day, but all nevertheless ordained to help reveal the MIND and SENSIBILITY AND SENTIMENTS of Deity, to help guide us, by the Spirit, on His “Way of life (everlasting),” to bring us to the full stature of the Messiah as trophies of His sanctifying work in those who don’t find it “a strange thing” to be obedient “in EVERYTHING” (Ps 106:3; 139:23,24; Prov 6:3; Hosea 6:1-3; 8:1-12; Matt 28:20; 2 Cor 2:14-17; 3:18; 5:5; Eph 4:13,14).

The Ezra 9 image (above) perfectly illustrates the point that ‘Revival’ is a seed, a MEANS to serious REFORM and Restoration of all doctrine wilfully forsaken over nearly 1900 years

The ATTAINMENT of true sonship (Phil 3:10-17; Heb 12:1,4-11), defined as loyalty to YHVH and to His covenant (Jn 14:15,21; Rom 3:31; 1 Jn 2:3-6,17), is ultimately RECOGNIZED, REWARDED and MANIFESTED by the inclusion in the FIRST resurrection (Rom 8:19,23), of those DULY PREPARED and “walking at liberty” (“obedient in everything,” to be “dead with the Messiah” to indictment by the law, for transgression of truth and righteousness – 2 Cor 2:9; Col 4:12; 2 Tim 2:5,11), UNDEFILED in “the Way of YHVH” (Ps 1;19:7-13; 119:1,45; Rom 7:22,25; Acts 24:14), to be worthy to “walk WITH our Messiah in white,” by being given “fine linen, clean and white,” representing “the crown of righteousness” (2 Tim 4:3-8) awarded for “working righteousness” as proof of Fear of God, that great test of full consecration to the will of God (Deut 5:29; Ps 50:5,23; 86:11; 111:10; 119:38; Prov Matt 6:9,10; Lk 1:50; Acts 10:35; Heb 12:14,28; Rev 3:4; 14:6,7,12).

Eternal life being dependent upon HOLINESS (Rom 6:22; Heb 12:14; Rev 20:6), salvation from eternal death NECESSITATES our willingness coupled with the Spirit-enabled ability to examine, separate, categorize/classify and discern righteous application of knowledge (Rom 3:20,31; 2 Tim 2:15) to know without a shadow of doubt WHAT constitutes ABOMINATION (detestable and abhorrent) in the sight of God, amongst all that is esteemed by man (Lev 5:17; Lk 16:15), or we are not fully revived/raised from our baptism into Messiah’s Death (Rom 6:1-6)…we are not “dead to sin” (“circumcized to the world”) to “walk lawfully in Him” in perfect repentance and perfect faith (faith completed by works), free from defilement caused by accidental or presumptuous breach of covenant, in the “newness of life” now possible through our costly justification and regeneration by the Blood, water and Spirit (Lev 5:17; Deut 25:16; Jn 3:5; 4:14; Rom 8:13; Col 2:6; Titus 3:5; 2 Tim 2:5; Heb 10:16).

Being Instructed “out of the law” equips us to fulfil Rom 2:13,18,26; 12:1,2; 8:4-14 & Phil 1:9-11 – “approving the things that are MORE EXCELLENT,” to answer “the call to glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:1-15).

There is no such thing as discipleship by the Spirit APART FROM study of “the Way” (which Abraham learned to perfection and) which is anchored on the rock (feminine singular) of the Torah and the Prophets (Gen 17:1; 18:18,19; 26:5; Matt 5:17-19,48; 7:24,25; 28:20; Acts 24:14)

What is “highly esteemed by men,” versus what appalls YHVH and justifiably deserves the label “abomination” (more frequently mentioned in Scripture than most of us have ever taken to heart), are the POLES between which we are to DISCOVER “the Way of YHVH” which leads to Life (Matt 7:13,14), by constantly using the infallible ‘Berean Test’ based on consulting the wisdom of the Torah and the Prophets, for verification or rebuttal of anything pertaining to our spiritual life (Prov 25:2; Acts 17:11; 18:25,26; 24:14; 2 Cor 13:1,5; 2 Tim 3:14-17).

We are to avail ourselves of “the knowledge of sin” (Rom 3:20; 1 Tim 1:8-11; 2 Tim 3:14-17) in order to throw the Divine will into SHARP RELIEF.

‘Revival,’ always a merciful dab of power from on high, is grace shown (“a LITTLE SPACE,” our probation, once reconciled, to undergo trials of the heart) to learn YHVH’s commandments (Acts 21:20; Rom 3:20,31) to be fully delivered from bondage to error and sin by being sanctified by doing His will (Rom 2:13; 1 Thess 4:1-3a; 2 Thess 2:13-15; James 1:22-25), “to LEAVE us a REMNANT, to ESCAPE…” (Ezra 9:8-10; Lk 17:10; 20:35; 21:36; Rev 3:10; 14:12).

Torah is given to train and fine-tune our CONSCIENCE to esteem ALL precepts (Ps 119:128; Col 4:12), to instantly detect error and sharply differentiate between virtue and abomination.

If conscience is WEAKENED by a restricted, biased spiritual diet (Heb 5:11-14; 6:1-12), and unexercised and further undermined by weak faith (which Y’shua always rebuked), it is easily DEFILED (1 Cor 3:17; 8:6-13).

Biblical ‘Revival’ is not so much an event or series of events marked by worship teams; the receiving of merciful relief ministered as the Spirit wills as the fruit of the nine ministry gifts of the Spirit; and perhaps being slain in the Spirit, but is a SOLEMN RETURN to God in deep repentance for straying from the plumbline of the Torah and the Prophets, as amplified by the Messiah (Deut 18:18,19; Acts 3:22,23; Matt 5:18,19,48; 17:5; Rom 3:31).

The concept of being revived (an act of CONVICTION BY THE SPIRIT, of REPENTANCE and of RETURNING) is perhaps best summed up by the personal transparency shown by the willing introspection and external inspection described in Ps 51:2,11; 139:23,24; 2 Cor 13:5; 2 Peter 1:10,11 & James 1:22-25; 4:4-10.

The broadest definition of revival must surely be, our being made aware of our NEED FOR GOD, and of our nakedness before Him, not just knowing that He EXISTS, but that the reward that LASTS, is reserved for those who “EARNESTLY seek Him,” by which obedience is ALWAYS implied (Deut 7:9-15; 28:1,2,9,10; Ps 53:1; Heb 5:9; 11:6).

We’re commanded to pray for governments so that the Word of God has “full course” and is glorified (2 Thess 3:1-3; 1 Tim 2:1-5), because without rulers PREDISPOSED to doing us GOOD (Rom 13), by governing under JUST laws, men would ‘eat each other alive.’

For that reason, it is clearly of the deepest regret to the Holy One Who is Father of all, that so few of us identify unequivocably with the Torah prophecies about the calling of our holy chief-of-nations-designate (Deut 26:16-19; Jer 31:7,10,17,31-36) as witness-in-chief (Is 43:1-11; 44:1-8) to the wisdom and the beauty of the holiness of our Father’s STATUTE BOOK (Ex 19:4-8; Deut 6:25; 28:9-14; 32:46,47; 33:2,4; Mal 4; Lk 1:33; Matt 5:19; Rom 3:31), especially in Deut 4:5-8 and Is 2:2-4 & Micah 4:1-8.

We’re called to demonstrate the wisdom of YHVH’s laws, to the world.

It is an integral part of OUR call too, to witness as THEIR co-heirs.

Have we overlooked 2 Tim 3:10?

As Paul’s highly commended protegé, evangelist (proclaimer) Timothy was a model Torah disciple (2 Tim 3:10,14-17).

Evangelism and with it, REVIVAL, have been OVERSIMPLIFIED to the point of being stage- managed (in terms of censorship of at least 80% of the everlasting covenant in revival meetings); REPENTANCE has consequently become deeply COMPROMISED; and understanding of ELIGIBILITY for the First Resurrection scandalously SCOFFED AT, all because ‘altar calls’ promising INSTANTANEOUS UNCONDITIONAL full assurance of hope, contrary to Paul’s teaching and practice (Phil 3:10-17; 2 Tim 4:3-8; Heb 6:11), have been SEVERED from Proclamation of the weighty moral law by which true, LONGSTANDING repentance was always designed to be obtained by conviction of sin, righteousness and judgment BY THE SPIRIT, using the benchmarks of Kingdom morality and ethics.

How else can someone QUANTIFY what it means to “fall short of the glory of God” (in order to gauge the scale of repentance PERSONALLY applicable from time to time – 2 Cor 13:5), if not by being taught the PARAMETERS of the HOLINESS of “the WAY,” which the bank of precepts (spiritual treasure) found woven into the complete Biblical narrative, are there to illuminate (Ps 119:96-105; Is 35:8; Rom 3:9-12,20,23,31).

In this busy Portion, we’re further introduced to the “statutes and judgments” derived from the Ten commandments (Deut 4:10,13,14) and which are intended to instill Fear of God so that we take ANY of His commandments seriously enough to obey them and teach them to our children (Matt 5:19), since YHVH has never condoned abridgement of the Way (Ex 20:20; Deut 4:10; 5:29; 12:32; Matt 5:19; 1 Cor 7:19; Col 4:12; 1 Tim 4:16).

He grants forgiveness so that He may be held in AWE, not just loved. If Fear of God doesn’t FOLLOW His kindness that leads to repentance, and DEEPEN by concerted efforts to increase in the knowledge of YHVH and through contemplation of our personal history of His mercy and grace towards us in every season of our lives, it is unlikely that a believer will master “the Way of peace” (Rom 3:17,18; 2 Tim 2:5) to produce sufficient proof of righteousness to reach the purity required as the test of holiness (2 Tim 2:20,21; 1 Peter 1:2-9; 1 Jn 3:3,4,7).

Fear of God is a powerful hedge against a SHALLOW walk.

The precepts commented on below contain principles which have wide application down the generations, for those who want to enjoy the GREATEST benefits of allegiance to the Throne of grace, which COMMANDS their observance (Matt 6:9,10; 12:50)

The Portion begins in Deut 21:10-14, by describing measures in times of conquest (which we can generalize), evidently to mitigate or neutralize the dangers of unequal yoking (since intermarriage with pagans is never approved by YHVH – Ezra 10:1-3).

This prompts our recall of Paul’s various warnings against unequal yoking, including prostitution and not marrying out of the faith, upon the decease of a believing spouse; or folding a marriage when an unbelieving spouse is more than willing to remain with a devout spouse, thereby obtaining the extraordinary benefit of being sanctified by the saved partner.

The proscriptions against unequal yoking include binding oneself to the counterfeit church of Rev 18:4,5, and its doctrines of men.

Deut 21:18-21 is not going beyond what is written in Ex 20:12. It is raising an alarm against the severity of the sin of parental dishonour by the contempt of insolence and insubordination, justifying the death of a dissolute, rebellious, reprobate son, defiant of the dignity and authority of BOTH parents, as a just remedy to the CURSE which this example brings upon society. It ought to persuade us that character is not benefited by SPARING the rod, which, if even exercising the rod fails, fully warrants the extreme penalty. NOT chastising a son as Biblically prescribed, is a recipe for perdition (ruin and misery) through vexation and grief (Heb 12)

Ex 21:22,23 takes up heaven’s plea to nations from Ex 20:13 and Nu 35:30-34, not to abolish the death penalty for pre-meditated murder, which would otherwise defile and curse the Earth (the penalty for violating Ex 20:13 is non-negotiable, unmitigateable, unabateable, and beyond commutation)

Deut 22:1-4 emphasizes the sanctity of private property and putting the interests of others ahead of our own as a cornerstone principle of the Royal Law (Lev 19:18b; Jn 13:34; James 2:8-12) which is to be universally respected (Matt 22:39)

Deut 22:5 should leave us under no illusion that gender distinctions are to be held as sacrosanct as life itself and that it is abomination to God, to repudiate and mock the biological demarcations of gender identities established by Him as natural law.

Deut 22:6,7 is a teaching on compassion, containing a broader lesson on faithful stewardship of creation, upon which one’s longevity depends (Rev 11:18b)

Deut 22:8 teaches us to be sensitive about justifiable liability for harming others due to foreseeable negligence.

Deut 22:9,10 teaches the mystery of distinctions in nature, necessary for blessed productivity and sanctified crops

Deut 22:11 is by no means an arbitrary rule, but expressly forbids THIS blend of fabrics because it was a hallmark of a defiled pagan priesthood implacably opposed to the sanctity of the holy kingdom of priests which Israel and their co-heirs are called to be (Ex 19:4-8; Rev 1:5)

Ex 22:12 describes one of the practical measures, the ‘tzit tzit’/fringe representing “the Way” compromising not just 613 laws (many superceded by the Crucifixion), but well over a 1000 precepts/principles of righteousness set out in the New Covenant, which include continuing to “remember” and “observe/guard” Shabbat as the sacrosanct covenant sign of our sanctification (Ex 31:13,16; Mk 2:27,28); and the ‘Mezuza’ cylinder on the doorpost signifying household acceptance of the yoke of Sovereignty of the “God and Saviour” of the Hebrews Who made Heaven and Earth and Who redeemed us – Deut 6:4-9; Is 45:17-25; Matt 11:29,30; Mk 12:28-34; Jn 10:30; Titus 2:13, to constantly recall us to conscientious faithfulness to all the will of God. The Mezuza serves to arrest the attention and convict of complacency, those households YHVH mercifully watches over to return them safely home, yet who take Him and His covenant lightly (Deut 32:15; Ps 121:4-8; Rev 3:16-22)

Deut 22:13-21 is there to witness against anyone who marries for self-interest, and who lies and commits crimen injuria (soul-afflicting, criminal defamation/libel), bearing false witness (Deut 5:20) and who ridicules the deadly seriousness of VIRGINITY as a condition for HOLY wedlock, for the realization of the FULLNESS of the promises made, for maintaining the integrity of the marriage bed, to produce holy offspring (Heb 13:4). The degrading of marriage by worldliness, along with breach of many other high-minded moral absolutes, has caused a torrent of defilement of the earth (Is 24:3-6) and has had a shocking knock-on effect on the church’s treatment of the analogous mystery, of the marriage between the Saviour and a PURE bride (Gen 2:24; Eph 5:28-33), as somehow UNRELATED to covenant-keeping and refinement by fire like gold and silver (Matt 3:11; Rom 8:4,6,7; Mk 9:49; Eph 4:13,14,23,24)

Deut 22:22-30 reinforces the plain truth that adultery (which includes breach of engagement by promiscuity), the transgression of Deut 5:21 (a terrible betrayal of the marriage covenant of Ten Commandments), is not with impunity, either in this life or the hereafter, because to begin with, covetousness (inordinate desire) of any kind is defined by the New Covenant as IDOLATRY (1 Cor 6:10; Eph 5:5; Col 3:5; Heb 13:5), and sexual sin (the absolute proof of lack of Fear of God) resulting from contempt for the blessing reserved for the marriage union (Matt 5:31,32; 1 Cor 6:12-20; 7:1-5,8-14), is an invitation to the lake of fire (Rev 21:8; 22:15)

Deut 23:1-9 will require skill in ‘halacha’ (application) by the Spirit, but certainly, by analogy, at an abstract level, reveals the depth of YHVH’s insistence that as sons of the Living God Who is “no respecter of persons,” WE ARE ALL to accept chastisement in order not to be “bastards”/illegitimate sons (Deut 23:2; Heb 12:8-11 KJV), to be impartial at all times, as “offerings acceptable” to the LORD, through total commitment to obedience in word and deed (Rom 15:16-18), showing particular care not to suppress mercy and compassion and cause affliction by infringing the laws of charity, because being tight-fisted in dispensing staple help to the needy is the quickest way to separate ourselves from our openhanded Maker, as YHVH’s fury and extreme sentence upon the Ammonites and Moabites (way beyond the “third & fourth generation” of Ex 20:5b) demonstrates (Ps 82:1-4; Is 58:6-11; Dan 4:27; 1 Jn 3:16-18). That includes deliberately or negligently entrapping others in sin (Deut 23:4b-6)

Deut 23:7 adds a note about maintaining respect for kinship and considerateness/reciprocation towards those who’ve formerly been a blessing

Deut 23:10,11 reflects the holiness of body fluids and their proper use in time and place (involuntary nocturnal emissions require sanctification of the body; masturbation is cursed), especially now that the body is the temple of the HOLY Spirit; whereas Deut 23:12-14 raises the importance of basic decency and prudence in dealing with body waste products for YHVH not to need to avert His gaze (Hab 1:13); and to protect ourselves and the environment from uncleanness/pollution/infection/contamination, alluded to in 2 Cor 6:17,18; 7:1

Giving asylum to fugitives from oppression (Deut 23:15,16) is mentioned in the same breath as abhorring prostitution and sodomy, both forms of satanic captivity/bondage; and never funding offerings from mammon derived from these abominations (Deut 23:17,18, Rom 1:24-32)

Deut 23:19-23 reminds us that extortionate interest charged to a fellow believer is detestable to God because it proves a desperate lack of faith in the numerous promises that God will repay exactly what we give as alms; and multiply seed sown as gifts to others in need, 30,60, and even 100 times (2 Cor 8&9), if we give without asking, without strings attached.

Deut 23 ends in verses 24&25 with more property law counsel, in terms of what it is appropriate to consume in another’s vineyard or from another’s grain harvest if one were to legally find oneself on such properties. This all has to do with teaching distinctions and moderation in behaviour to respect boundaries, while demonstrating the Sovereignty of our LawGiver as Owner of the Earth which He made. It’s obviously never appropriate to plunder a neighbour’s property, OR even to fill containers with produce to cart off, instead of just satisfying a present hunger or a desire to sample a crop by eating only sufficient to satisfy a hunger or curiosity, on the spot, unless of course the owner INVITES one to take more.

Deut 24:1-4 was a temporary dispensation of leniency due to the hardness of Israel’s heart, by refusal to circumcize their hearts, and has been superceded by the regulation of marriage by Instruction given in the Sermon on the Mnt (Matt 5:31,32) which harks back to the very beginning in Gen 2:24, which as the default position (first principles), stipulates INSEPARABILITY of a consummated (hence one flesh) marriage, which the LORD Himself qualifies by making adultery by one of the parties the ONLY grounds for divorce by the other (Lk 16:17,18). The impact of the sorry state of personal defilement of “the land” by ignoring the Messianic teaching (Acts 3:23), the church in effect encouraging the merry-go-round of once- wedded individuals, is noted in Deut 24:4.

It is highly significant that the expanded Jewish bedtime ‘Shema’ proclamation of faithfulness to the One and only God (Mk 12:28-34), includes the reflexive plea: “May my BED be flawless (undefiled) before You.”

No-one (married or single) whose bed (‘holy ground’), which the temples of HIS Spirit occupy for a third of HIS day, is desecrated (in thought or deed), is acceptable to this Holy, Holy, Holy God (Heb 13:4).

We deduce this from the fact that our beds are a physical token of His rest, which we are to labour (in righteousness) to enter, to find the “rest and refreshing” promised to doers of the Way (Is 28:9-13; Rom 6:13-26)

The deeper we ‘peer into’ the perfect law of liberty (Deut 33:4; James 1:22-25), the more we should appreciate how merciful our God is to retain the spiritual-examination and repentance function of the Yom Kippur Fast (the backstop to complacency) to help us dot the i’s and cross the t’s of our annual account with Him, to be sure to end the cycle of Moedim (Calendar of Holy Appointments) fully absolved (1 Tim 1:5-2:6), for our names to REMAIN inscribed as the righteous, to enter the new cycle (signified by Sukkot/Tabernacles) WITH HONOUR (1 Jn 2:3-6,17,28,29; Rev 3:1-6)

Our holy VOCATION (“LEARN of Me”) is indeed a HIGH calling to PERFECTION of righteous living, which Paul never took for granted (Eph 4:1; Phil 2:12-15; 3:10-17; Col 1:22,23,28,29; 2 Tim 4:3-8).

God’s love of the honeymoon of marital love and His careful watching over marriages properly sanctified to His glory, is described in verse Ex 24:5’s provision of a year’s sabbatical (“free at home for a year”) to cocoon, to establish a marriage relationship on the rock of Torah, in Him (Matt 7:25)

Deut 24:6 warns against demanding security of such value that it would be like “taking a life in pledge.” This and so many other fiduciary laws show how carnal mercenary instincts (rampant oppressive opportunism) inflame YHVH’s anger. We cannot serve Mammon and YHVH

Deut 24:7 amplifies the Ten Commandments (Ex 20:15,17) to show that kidnapping (theft and trafficking of a LIFE) carries the death penalty. If not now (because the world disagrees), certainly THEN. Future reckoning.

Deut 24:8,9 reminds us that even the dreadful consequences of presumption (“the great transgression” – Ps 19:13) and rebellion/attempted usurpation can be REVERSED through remorse and earnest intercession

The cry of God is for purity and piety.

A leading Jewish prayer, “PURIFY our hearts, to serve You in all TRUTH,” reflects the longing of YHVH for co-operation with His Spirit, to perfect holiness (Deut 5:29; 2 Cor 7:1; Phil 2:11,12)

Mercy will then triumph over judgment.

Deut 24:10-13 insists on creditors observing privacy laws, personal dignity and being mindful of debtors’ well-being (such as not leaving him exposed to the elements overnight for the sake of retaining a pledge) in the process of obtaining of security/pledges to ensure repayment of a debt

Deut 24:16-18 covers the need for strict impartiality in administration of the law to ensure fairness and mercy for the foreigner, the orphan and the widow, by YHVH making an appeal to conscience, reminding Israel what He did repeatedly, magnanimously, to protect, provision and preserve them (and us) while we were yet in bondage to sin and fear of death; and reinforces the principle of PERSONAL accountability to YHVH to be conformed to His will (Rom 12:1,2; 1 Cor 6:9-12; 11:1,2; 2 Cor 2:9), judgment of sin being an INDIVIDUAL cost to count, to preferably choose life and blessing by doing righteousness, such as Ex 24:13b

Ex 24:19-22 develops this moral lesson on avoiding the hypocrisy of double-standards (further extended in Deut 25:13-16) by showing how seclusion and private ownership is never an excuse for withholding grace from the most vulnerable amongst the poor and needy.

In these iconic illustrations of three Holyland crops: grain, vines, olives, we are reminded (unless we were ignorant) of the principle of ’eminent domain’ – namely that the Earth in its entirety is forever the LORD’s, literally in EVERY respect, assigned as HE wishes to whomsoever He pleases (Jer 27:5); AS IS the world and all who populate it is entirely His (notwithstanding satan’s seductions), for us to “learn of Me” (Matt 11:29,30; 12:1-8), for us to wear HIS yoke of commandments (not man’s – Is 29:13), by developing HIS sensitivity to suffering, and HIS remedy of loving-kindness and compassion, to be “in the world, AS HE IS” in Heaven (Matt 5:19,48; 1 Jn 4:17).

By the time we reach the 38th benchmark of sanctification (Deut 25:17-19; Rom 3:31; 15:16-18) at the close of this Portion in a few minutes, Torah study ought to have been vindicated, by our having almost FELT the CALIBRATION OF OUR SOULS by the Spirit acquainting us with the mind of Christ (Jn 17:17,19; 2 Cor 3:18; 1 Thess 5:23; 2 Thess 2:13,14; Heb 8:8-12; 10:16), to enhance our discernment of moral distinctions, to more easily comprehend the narrowness of “the Way of Holiness” which is “the Way of YHVH,” the “Way of life” and “path of the just” to which ‘revival’ MUST lead us, or prove ineffectual (perhaps even counterfeit) in finally “winning Messiah” doctrinally pure DISCIPLES who through diligent covenant-keeping, obtain full assurance of hope, to the end (Deut 32:47; Prov 4:13,18; 6:23; Is 35:8; Matt 7:13,14; 19:16,17; Lk 1:17; 20:21; Heb 5:9,11-14; 6:1-12; 10:36-39; 12:25-29; 2 Jn vs 5&6,9-11).

Hebrew prophecy leaves no doubt what the purpose is of the “Spirit of HOLINESS” (Rom 1:4) Who manifested in TONGUES OF FIRE (Matt 3:11) as candles, on the heads of the consecrated company of devoted bondservants, all upper room pursuers of perfection (2 Cor 7:1); and Who manifested as a Dove descending to identify the Messiah to John, while He was teaching “the Way” to those who were under conviction by the Spirit (Lk 3:10-15,21,22).

Holiness is everything, or eternal life is a mirage (Rom 6:22; Heb 12:14; 1 Peter 1:13-17).

Let’s wrap-up the line-by- line, precept-by-precept analysis (Is 28:9-13), with some commentary on Deut 25.

Deut 25:1-3 contains a general principle upheld throughout by the New Covenant, but most keenly stated in James 1:22 – 2:26.

Namely, that eternal salvation is the call to be ACTIVELY righteous (’emunah’ from Hab 2:4 & Heb 10:38,39 meaning both faith & faithfulness), not just to believe and CONFESS it (2 Cor 5:21; 1 Jn 3:7), which would not do justice to righteous Abraham’s zeal for Torah and expectation of OUR obedience to “the Way of YHVH,” for him to receive all that YHVH has promised him (Gen 18:18,19; 26:5).

There’s no entering into the “rest and refreshing” of God if we are DENIERS that grace for reconciliation has a SEQUEL (after justification by the Blood), in the spiritual ministry whose task it is to PRODUCE AND FOSTER righteous living in all the will of God (Rom 8:4,12-14; Col 4:12; Heb 12:28).

The principle is that YHVH “will justify the righteous (i.e. those who demonstrate sufficient proof of righteousness in word and deed), to give him (reward him) ACCORDING TO HIS (the righteous man’s reputation for) RIGHTEOUSNESS” (1 Kings 8:32; Jn 5:29; Rom 2:6-13; 1 Jn 2:3-6,28,29).

So shall those who habitually “WORKETH righteousness” (Acts 10:35) be glorified, while those who quibble about the holy laws of God, such as gainsaying the efficacy of the death penalty and of FLOGGING for those “WORTHY of being BEATEN” (Deut 25:2), instead of fines and imprisonment (Deut 25:2,3; Rom 8:6,7), will very likely be judged and condemned with the world for not discerning the purpose of the Crucifixion, which is the transfigurement of our souls by purification by our full acceptance of and conformance to the will and image of God (Jn 3:19-21; 1 Cor 11:28-32).

Fines disfavour the poor and breed arrogance in wealthy wrongdoers. The affliction of flogging and public disgrace would do more to police unrighteousness and “turn the (stubbornly) disobedient to the wisdom of the just” than most laws on statute books, pretending to be righteous

Deut 25:4 is a metaphor for censoring, stifling and suppressing the truth; withholding due provision to honourable ministers of the full counsel (2 Jn vs 9-11 is the corollary); and touching the LORD’s anointed in any other number of ways; obviously with an agricultural application – inconsiderateness to working animals

Deut 25:5-10 is related to the ‘degrees of affinity’ which determine matters of incest and succession. Here, under the classification, “Duty of a husband’s brother,” we are educated to consider how great our God’s concern is for continuity of legacy and inheritance by preservation of patriarchal identity down the lineages of the House of Jacob in which we are grafted (Nu 1:42; 2:2; Lk 1:33). This in no wise touches on adultery and fornication, but describes the existence of the deep moral duty of a brother to his deceased sibling, to perpetuate the sibling’s own household, under his family name. To do this requires succession by a male firstborn, of a marriage needing the sanctified appointment of a proxy-husband as a kinsman-redeemer to “raise up unto his brother a name in Israel/build up his brother’s house,” by conceiving an heir for the deceased. All above- aboard and intensely honourable, hence the opprobrium which refusal of this remedy for breach of heredity would bring (Deut 25:9,10)

Deut 25:12 advises caution in how we go about obtaining deliverance in crises so that we don’t inadvertently defile ourselves and trade one kind of oppression for a different bondage, this time to sin, by not having consulted Rom 3:20b and acquainted ourselves with the path of life

Finally, in Deut 25:13-16 & 17-19, we’re reminded on the one hand that in economic matters, virtue (honesty/truthfulness/equity) is WISDOM, which along with tithing and firstfruits offerings, bring longevity, riches and honour (Prov 3:7-16); and that YHVH will inevitably avenge us of our enemies, that “everlasting righteousness” and justice will prevail, and their memory and the pall of past suffering at their hands, will be obliterated, even though we will never forget the mercy of our deliverance.

ALL THE ABOVE falls within the prudent warning contained in the wisdom-rule to “count the cost” of being built up into the express image of YHVH in Y’shua, to finish the race, because “few find” the narrow path that “leads to life” because few have the will to surrender their wills to follow the principle of the Master’s Gethsemane love-declaration, “not My will, but THINE be done,” to both honour AND Fear the Father (Mal 1:6; Matt 7:13-27; 22:12-14; Lk 14:24-35; 22:42-44; 1 Cor 9:24-27).

HalleluYaH.

So we see how the detail in Torah precepts teaches eternally rewarded, universal virtues like truthfulness, honesty and impartiality/equity that are marked Character traits of the Creator into Whose express image our salvation must conform us in the wonder-working soul-transfiguring power of His Spirit, or we “fail the grace” by failing the test of holiness by not fleeing from all that is abomination in His sight (Lk 16:15; 2 Cor 3:18; Rom 8:4,29; Heb 12:14,15,28).

(By the grace of YHVH, ‘Revival,’ a grammatical form of ‘revive’ that does not appear anywhere in the received texts, will be considered in further depth in the context of next week’s Portion)

Shabbat, the Spiritual SHOEHORN

Breach of the Fourth Commandment (Ex 20:8-11), the perpetual seventh day covenant-sign reflecting (to Principalities and Powers) the wisdom of acceptance of adoption in the eternal House of Jacob (Ex 31:13,16; Is 49:5-8; 54:3; 55:5; Lk 1:33; Rom 11; Eph 1:5; 2:11,12,19; 3:6-10), identified as the household of YHVH the God-King of Jacob, by the gift of complete rest in Messiah Y’shua-Jesus each week on Friday sunset to Saturday sunset ever since Gen 2:2,3 (Matt 5:19; Mk 2:27,28; Heb 4:1-11), is breach of our marriage vow taken in good faith by confessing the Messiah Y’shua-Jesus, our Divine Husband in the Echad (Unity) of ELOHIM (Gen1:26; 1 Jn 5:7), as Master, Prince and Saviour (Is 9:6,7; Lk 1:32,33; Acts 5:31; Rom 10:9-13).

In James 4:4-10, the Amplified Bible brilliantly interprets the disgrace of divided loyalty and severity of defying what is written, as spiritual adultery that makes rejection of the grace given to overcome it, such an appalling error of judgment and backslap to the Face of the Creator of holy time.

Isaiah 58:13 is the greatest test of loyalty to God.

The unlimited reward in Is 58:14 should leave no-one ignorant or sceptical about Shabbat’s independent covenant status (Ex 31:13,16; Is 56:6; 66:22-24).

Due to the unique sanctity of Shabbat as Prologue to the Set-Times and Appointments of the Living God (Is 56:6), it can aptly be described as a SPIRITUAL SHOEHORN that helps ensure that our feet are shod (Eph 6:15) with the authentic “EVERLASTING Gospel” of the faith (“Fear YHVH, give Him Glory [hallow/sanctify His Name] and keep His commandments and faith in Y’shua-Jesus”), as it was originally delivered (proclaimed and taught) to the saints, before corruption of doctrine by apostasy (Jude vs 3; 1 Cor 7:19; Rev 14:6,7,12).

“…Master, we know that You speak and teach what is right (upright, principled, accurate, virtuous, judicious, blameless) and that You show no partiality to anyone, but instruct ‘the (lawful) WAY of YHVH,’ honestly and in truth (and in righteousness)”
(Zech 8:8; Lk 20:21; Acts 24:14).

‘Abiding in the Vine’ (Jn 15) is a precept-tailored, full-counsel-sown CUSTOM-FIT for true sons (‘STRAIT’/NARROW/RIGOROUS, admittedly, to avoid being unequally yoked, but a comfortable fit nevertheless – Matt 7:13-27; 11:29,30; 15:14; Heb 12; 1 Jn 2:3-6; 5:2,3) designed as a “perfect law of LIBERTY” (Jn 14:16; 15:14; James 1:22-25; 2:8-26) to be practised in the obedience of faith after salvation apart from works, under the grace of probation (Heb 2:1-3; 3:7-19; 4:1-11; 10:36-39; 12:28,29), by faith working by love (Jn 15:14; Rom 15:16-18; 16:26).

Into which ‘perfect (covenant) fit’ Shabbat (the antithesis of slavery in Egypt; and ‘Prologue’ to the LORD’s Feast Appointments) ‘SHOEHORNS’ us with the GREAT EASE that only such GREAT GRACE, as the SHALOM-SHALOM of the “everlasting covenant of Shabbat” can supply by the Spirit of Holiness, as a WEEKLY MASTERCLASS in the discipline of learning how to crucify the flesh (Is 58:13; Ex 20:8-11; Rom 13:12-14; 6:6,11,12; Eph 4:22-24; Col 3:9,10).

Those “masteries” of body and soul (which comprise crucifixion of the ‘flesh’) were always meant to BEGIN with PROMPT obedience to submit to baptism (full immersion) into Y’shua’s Death for the remission of sins, and thereafter, IMMEDIATE adoption of Shabbat as our joint- heritage in the Messiah (Gen 2:2,3/Ps 119:111/Matt 5:19; 12:8/Mk 2:27,28/Eph 1:5; 2:11,12/1 Thess 5:23/2 Tim 2:5/Heb 4:1-11), as a foundational proof of OUR adoption by the House of Jacob as heirs of the world (Lk 1:33; Rom 4:13,16; 11:17-29).

In “THAT man” (Acts 17:31), “the Branch,” “the Master FROM Heaven” Who does ALL of HEAVEN’s will on Earth as “Master of ALL,” especially of “THAT day” (Ex 16:23,28-30; Is 4:2; 11:2; 56:6; Matt 6:9,10; 11:27a; Acts 10:35,36), the HOLY SEVENTH day ratified by HIM (Matt 5:19; Mk 2:27,28) to signify that in EVERY generation, a remnant of Israel is set apart (sanctified from from amongst all peoples – Ex 31:13,16; 33:16) as FOREVER “the church (of Jacob the firstborn) of YHVH” (Lk 1:32,33; Jn 10:16; Acts 7:38; Eph 2:11,12,19; 3:6; Heb 12:23), we have our greatest covenant Witness (Is 42:6,7,21) that Shabbat’s lessonS on holiness are indispensable for purging of error, for perfection of character through transfiguration of our souls to bear Messiah’s Image (Rom 8:4,29; 2 Cor 3:18).

By REWARDING us for sanctifying TIME (by our acknowledging the unique sanctity of Shabbat, the threshold of the Door), by SHOREHORNING us into “the Way” to MAGNIFY TORAH by the Spirit (Is 42:21; Matt 5:17-19; Rom 3:31; 8:4-14), SHABBAT simultaneously shoehorns us into our chosen pre-Creation HEBREW identity as Echad (One) with the God of the HEBREWS (Ex 3:13-18; Deut 5:15; Jn 17:21-23; 1 Cor 8:6; Eph 1:4,5; 2:11,12) Who saved us from the slavehouse of bondage to sin and fear of death, for us to Exodus from the power of darkness (Col 1:13), to learn the righteousness of “the Way of YHVH” in Abraham’s dynastic household, now the body of Messiah the Seed of Abraham (Gen 18:18,19; Is 51:1-7; Eph 2:19; Gal 3:16) to keep covenant by discerning error, to repair BREACH of THE WAY to be perfect (Is 56:6-8; 58:12-14; Lk 6:40; 20:21; 1 Cor 7:19; 11:1,2; 2 Thess 2:13-15), to “remain forever” inscribed for life (1 Jn 2:17), to “ride on the heights of the earth and feast on the inheritance of our father Jacob” in the ages to come, as seed of Abraham (“in Abraham”), “in (and amongst the Tribes of) Jacob” (Gen 2:3; 28:14; Is 29:22-24; Lk 1:33; Gal 3:29; Rev 21:12).

HalleluYaH

This will help us understand the complete rôle of grace in the true “EVERLASTING salvation” (salvation “to the uttermost”) of Is 45:17-25 | Heb 7:25 :

See Titus 3:7 Amplified Bible (below)

The call to “walk after the Spirit,” as the definition of abiding in the Vine to be “in Christ/the Messiah” (Jn 15:1-15; Rom 8:1-14; 1 Jn 2:3-6,17,28,29), is Heaven’s unambiguous CONFIRMATION of the beauty of the holiness of the “just, good, spiritual laws” of our Lawgiver and, ultimately, Judge of the thoroughness of our PREPARATION during our probation under grace, to be “accounted worthy” of selection amongst His blessed, spotless bride (Lk 20:35; 21:36; Rom 3:31; 7:7,12-16,22,25; 1 Cor 7:19; 2 Cor 5:9-11; Rev 20:6).

It is inconceivable for anyone to “REMAIN FOREVER” “in the Messiah,” if this fundamental truth is disavowed, and the Holy Spirit (our Sanctifier – Rom 15:16-18; 1 Thess 5:23; 2 Thess 2:13-15), and the LORD Y’shua our Master (our Intercessor, for our perfection – Lk 6:40; Heb 7:25), DISobliged (refused our co-operation, for our obligatory refinement like gold and silver, to be conformed to the express image of YHVH in Y’shua-Jesus).

Titus 3:7 Amplified Bible

“[He regenerated and renewed us by His Spirit] that we might be justified by His grace (by His favour, wholly undeserved) [so that we might be ACKNOWLEDGED and COUNTED as CONFORMED to the Divine will in PURPOSE, THOUGHT and ACTION], and become heirs of eternal life, according to [our] hope”

So here, in a description of our restoration to peace and favour with YHVH through the Name of His Son invoked for the remission of sins in our regenerative baptism into His Death and Resurrection, the Amplified Bible provides the simple, self-evident insight/corollary that DOING righteousness under grace (the doing of which falls within the scope of “GRACE for GRACE” in Jn 1:16; Heb 12:28 and of “righteousness…from FAITH to FAITH” in Rom 1:17), is IMPLICIT in the righteousness (and with it, original innocence) IMPUTED to us AS grace, BY grace (Acts 10:35; Matt 5:20; 1 Jn 2:28,29).

Just as “faith & faithfulness,” which together comprise the Hebrew ’emunah’ in Hab 2:4 which has been way too loosely translated merely as “faith” in Heb 10:38; so grace, like intercession, is incomplete without production of obedience, as proof that grace has been received to turn us completely “from disobedience, to the wisdom of the just(ified)” to make us ready for the Return of the LORD for a spotless bride (Lk 1:17; Eph5:27; 1 Tim 6:14;2 Peter 3:14).

So James 2 is not proposing an ADD-ON heretical form of justification which is IN CONFLICT with the justification by grace through faith which is carefully explained by Paul as “grace REIGNS through (our “putting on” the new nature as armour of light, by being servants of) righteousness” (uprightness in everything, at all times – Ps 106:3; Rom 5:21; 6:6,18,19,22; 13:12-14; Eph 4:23,24; Col 3:9,10; 2 Tim 2:5,11; Heb 12:28; James 2:14-26), but is merely expressing the OBVIOUS, namely, that disdain for and refusal of personal Voice instructions/directions (e.g. Gen 22) and the standing laws of God, not only voids INSTRUCTION (Rom 3:31), but failing repentance, voids SALVATION ITSELF (Matt 7:21-23; 8:51,52; 12:50; Jn 12:47-50), because faith without deeds and actions of obedience to back it up, is inoperative – dead (James 2:14,17,20-26).

This teaches us a great lesson about ‘revival.’

Namely, that grace does not REIGN unless we FULLY REVIVE (having been dead in Torahlessness/sin/unrighteousness – 1 Jn 3;3-10) by following-on, “in continuance,” to KNOW the LORD” (Is 64:5; Hosea 6:1-3, Rom 2:6-13,26) by gaining UNDERSTANDING of Him, in ever-closer RELATIONSHIP with Him, by learning to FEAR Him (a healthy motivation to be perfect in all His ways – Is 8:13,14,16,20; 28:9-13; Matt 5:48), by learning the COMMANDMENTS, to diligently do them, in order to abide in the Vine to remain forever in the Saviour’s love (hence Deut 4:10; Jn 14:15; 15:10; 1 Cor 7:19; 1 Jn 2:3-6,17,28,29, Rev 14:6,7,12).

So grace is law’s greatest ally, because the flesh weakens the law (Rom 8:3) and grace circumcises the sin nature to condemn sin in the flesh, so that finally, BY THE SPIRIT, we can be “dead with Y’shua” to the law (synonomous with being “dead to sin”) by mastering “the Way” which MAGNIFIES IT (Is 42:21; Lk 20:21; Acts 24:14; Rom 8:3,4,14; 2 Tim 2:5,10,11; 1 Peter 1:22; 2:24)

“Acceptance in the Beloved” as “an offering acceptable to YHVH” (Eph 1:6,7; Rom 12:1,2; 15:16-18) is predicated on BEING HOLY AND BLAMELESS (Eph 1:4; Heb 12:14), as proof of repentance (Acts 26:18,20) and of adoption (Eph 1:5), or we “fail the grace” (and trample the covenant and the Blood) that saved us (Heb 10:26-29; 12:15).

This is a kavod matter. The weightiest of all, which is why we must advance from the milk of initial repentance and cleansing by the Blood of reconciliation and justification, to learn the righteousness of walking (lawfully) in the light, for that Blood to CONTINUE TO BE AVAILING/ADVANTAGEOUS (Heb 6:1-11; 1 Jn 1:5-2:6,17).

The Shema entails OBEYING the “sayings” we are commanded to HEAR.

Circumspection/being heedful (Eph 5:15) requires at least that (Lk 17:10), if we’re serious about ‘winning Messiah’ by obtaining “the crown of righteousness,” to attain the promise of resurrection to LIFE on the strait path that “few find” (Matt 7:14; Jn 5:28,29; Phil 3:10-17; 2 Tim 4:3-8).

Spiritual apathy and inaccuracy are potentially self-destructive (Matt 7:13,24-27; Eph 5:10,15-17; Heb 10:26-39; Rev 2:5,26 3:1-6,10-12,16).

Paul doesn’t leave Torah behind (Rom 3:31) any more than Y’shua would do so (Matt 5:17-19).

The penalty for doing so is the same as under the previous covenants (Hosea 8; Mal 2)

Commentary on Torah Portion Deut 16:18 – 21:9 | Topic: Attunement by the Spirit, to a life of purity in “the Way” of law as love, for perfection as “gods” (Lk 20:21; Jn 10:35; 14:15; 1 Jn 5:2&3) | Shabbat 3rd September 2022; Hebrew calendar month of Elul, day 8 | Second Lunar Quarter

On Friday night (Erev Shabbat – 2nd September, 2022) on Marty Goetz’s Messianic House of Worship channel (You Tube), Marty, always Spirit-led, included the beautiful anthem, “Ebenezer (‘Thus far the LORD has helped me’),” which after opening with the line, “Come Thou Font of every blessing, TUNE our hearts to sing Thy praise…” and with “To rescue me from danger, He interposed His precious Blood,” goes on to end by repeating the HOLY PLEA: “…take our lives, LORD, keep and SEAL (i.e. sanctify) them, for Your (Cause, of sanctification, for Your) Courts above…” (2 Thess 2:13,14; Heb 2:11; 12:1-11).

This magnificent lyric reminds us that unless, once reconciled and justified by faith, we are sanctified by the commandments, to “hallow” (glorify, exalt) YHVH’s Name by obeying Matt 6:10 under grace (under the safety net of the covering of the Blood while we learn the covenant, on probation as candidates for resurrection to life), we place ourselves BEYOND the help of grace, due to rebellion (Jn 5:24,28,29; Rom 2:6-13).

You’ll find that hymn at 31 mins 40 secs on the 2nd Sept 2022 episode time bar, running to 38 mins.

This is a Providential musical introduction to what we can deduce as the main thrust of this week’s Portion, which is our ATTUNEMENT, by the Spirit, to a life perfect before God (Gen 17:1; 26:5; Matt 5:19,48; Col 1:22,28) by being dedicated (consecrated) to discovering the FREEDOM of INNOCENCE REGAINED by our cleansing from defilement, by the washing of the Blood and washing by the water of the Gospel, to keep ourselves in His love to enter into life by staying clean, which is possible only by being doers and not just hearers of His sayings/ways (Deut 18:18,19; Matt 7:21-27; 19:27; Jn 8:51,52; 14:15; 15:3,4,10; Eph 5:26,27; James 1:22-25; Jude vs 3,21).

This free restoration to ORIGINAL INNOCENCE (Adam’s original state of grace) has to be maintained and preserved by obedience to the faith, requiring “diligent inquisition (enquiry, investigation)” into, and judgment of all motives and actions contrary to the letter and spirit of “the Way” (Deut 19:15; Lk 21:20; Jn 8:31-36; 2 Cor 13:1,5).

So from the perspective of the Atonement and Reconciliation which we have through the redemption which is in the Blood of our Messiah, even the forgiveness of sins (2 Cor 5:14-21; Eph 1:7), we can regard this Portion as ‘an essay on self-governance,’ by the Spirit (Rom 7:25-8:4,6,7,14), to ultimately build sheep nations upon the foundation of “pillar” households – households consecrated to truth and righteousness at all costs through Instruction in “the Way,” in reverence and Godly fear, to make the yoke of NATIONAL governance easy, and their burden, light, just as it is for the FAITHFUL individual citizen of heaven (Matt 11:29,30; Lk 20:21; Rev 3:10-12).

Emperor Cyrus’ vision of Jerusalem physically rebuilt in fulfilment of his (and our) prophetic intercession (Ps 122:6-9; 137:4,5; Is 44:28), is a precursor to this phenomenon of deep personal sanctification (1 Thess 5:23), for “the City of our Great King” (Matt 5:35) to one day soon be the global urban model of a righteous capital (Is 1:25-27; 4:1-6; 60-62; Zech 8:8), and ultimately the Capital of a new universe.

We could call the future world, to whom those “accounted worthy” of that honour will belong (Lk 20:35), LOW MAINTENANCE SOCIETIES, requiring minimal external regulation in a world where men no longer “learn war.”

Apart from goat nations, who’ll reap curses and correction from a “rod of iron,” governments will ‘wear their power lightly’ because the prevailing tone, tenor and state of society will be one of all-pervasive, voluntary “everlasting righteousness” (Dan 9:24), where the lion will lie down with the lamb in a show of harmony of seemingly irreconcilable realities wrought by the unification of all things in heaven and earth, in the Messiah, when the love and shalom of YHVH attains its highest and eternal expression (Eph 1:9,10; Col1:19,20).

Just as believers “weaned from the milk” and exercised in strong meat through diligent obedience to the faith to be offerings acceptable to God, confident of a good report before the Judgment Seat of Messiah (Is 8:13,14,16,20; 28:9-13; 1 Tim 6:11-14; Rom 1:5; 2:14,26; 15:16-18; 16:26; 2 Cor 5:9-11; Heb 5:11-14; 6:1-11; 10:36-39; 12:25-29; 1 Jn 2:3-6,17,28,29), are a joy to spiritual leadership, barely drawing on their service as pastoral ministry (Heb 13:7,17).

While governmental and judicial office (Rom 13) obviously continue in both secular AND spiritual life (where servant-leadership revolves around competent discernment in counselling/judgment of matters), along with hereditary constitutional monarchy (with Divinely proven title to succession as in Deut 17; 1 Tim 2:2), and a royal priesthood which exists, not by presumption of office or general membership, but by the election-of-grace (2 Peter 2:9,10), the GENIUS of the New Covenant’s REGENERATION of human beings (Titus 3:5) is the DEVOLUTION of a spirit of sound judgment (“judgment as a robe and diadem”) to EVERY individual believer, even the competence and authority to judge the nations and angels (1 Cor 6:2,3; Phil 1:9).

This makes us directly accountable to the Godhead for examination of OUR every belief, utterance and action (1 Cor 11:30-32; 2 Cor 13:1,5; 2 Peter 1:10,11) and for evaluation of those of others, primarily to avoid “unequal yoking” and “friendship with the world” – since the power to BECOME true sons by taming the tongue and governing our actions, for us to master our spirits and “possess our souls” (Lk 21:19) is now permanently RESIDENT in our temples of the INDWELLING Spirit of the Messiah (Jn 1:12: Eph 3:20).

It’s no accident therefore that the great warning in Ps 19:7-13 against being found guilty of the “GREAT transgression” which is PRESUMPTION (Deut 17:12,13; Ps 19:13), avoidance of which is a pre-requisite for remaining AS INNOCENT as the day our confession of Y’shua as Master and our believing He was raised from the dead, “made us clean” (Ps 19:13; Jn 15:3), is HIGHLIGHTED in this Portion, so strongly associated with “righteousness and judgment (being) the foundation of His Throne” (Ps 97:2), ignorance of THE DETAIL of which makes it impossible to “be PERFECT with the LORD thy God” (Deut 18:13).

So OUR high call to “glory and virtue” through uncompromised holiness (Eph 1:4; 4:1-3,23,24; 2 Peter 1:3), is strongly rooted in these six chapters, which by analogy with civil and criminal law (Deut 19:9-20) show how great the personal cost will be to those who dare to presumptuously make-up doctrine (for which Replacement Theology is infamous), instead of rigorously verifying truth from two or three witnesses of Scripture from the Torah and the Prophets (Acts 24:14; 2 Cor 13:1,5; 2 Tim 3:14-17).

The heifer (Deut 21:1-9, a type of the rarity of the perfect oblation of the Lamb of God, is the great mystery motif, as either heifer or red heifer, that forever represents the PURITY OF INNOCENCE demanded by the Most High, of ANYONE believing for a place in Hebrew eternity (Ps 24:3-5; Hab 1:13; Lk 6:40; 1 Jn 3:3,4,7,10; Rev 21:12).

The Holy Torah that created the Universe by the Spirit of YHVH through the spoken Pre-incarnate Word commanding unseen reality into existence, was the MATRIX of (pattern for) the New Covenant, and which to this day is invaluable in settling our understanding of the knowledge of the renewed Covenant’s identity; as well as our own identity; and settling our comprehension of the WAYS of that “everlasting Covenant” and its linked-in dependency on ALL preceding covenants, upon which our worthiness for acceptance in a bride destined for Hebrew eternity depends – resurrection to life being a conditional promise to a “reserved remnant” who keep their salvation intact by wholeheartedly subscribing to all YHVH’s ways, to learn and to practice them as directed by the Spirit, as the law of love (Is 55:8; Jer 50:20; Lk 20:21,35; Jn 5:28,29; Rom 2:6-29; Phil 2:12-15; Heb 5:9; 8:8-11; 10:16; 1 Jn 2:3-6,17,28,29).

This Portion clearly defines the gravity of the ‘Shema’ (the umbrella love command), by locating and illustrating Y’shua-Jesus in the Torah which He MAGNIFIES by its amplification by Him from first Torah principles, in Matt 5-7.

Go now to Deut 18:13,15,18,19 (Acts 3:22,23), where Moses essentially PERSONALIZES the ‘Shema’ as Messianic (Deut 6:4,5; Mk 12:28-34), as “Hear (HIM, Y’shua), O Israel,” later to be paraphrased magisterially by Peter in Acts 3:22-26 and by the Father directly from Heaven as “HEAR ye HIM” (Matt 17:5), just as the marriage covenant and its statutes and judgments would be resoundingly confirmed in Heb 12:25-29, as “See that ye REFUSE not HIM Who SPEAKETH…” because He will ne revealed on His return, as a Consuming Fire.

Y’shua speaks directly out of the Torah from Deut 18:13 in Matt 5:19,48; and from Deut 18:18,19 in passages like Matt 7:21-23; Jn 5:24; 8:51,52 12:47-50.

From “be perfect [blameless and absolutely true/faithful] with the LORD Your God” (Deut 18:13) echoed in Gen 17:1; Matt 5:48 and Lk 6:40; as well as in purity passages like 1 Jn 3:3,4, since Father and Son are One; to TERRIBLE WARNINGS to those who profess the faith yet who hypocritically, do not OBEY THE GOSPEL (which “many” believe has no prescriptions for holy living) (Deut 18:19; Matt 7:13; Jn 3:19-21; Acts 3:23; 2 Thess 1:8; Heb 10:26-39)

So to end, with Deut 18:19 and Acts 3:23 front-of-mind, let’s talk frankly, candidly about LOVE and LIFE in the Spirit, because OUR perfection through the forming of the Divine Nature in us (Rom 8:4,29; 2 Peter 1) by our submission to the Spirit of Holiness to work out our own salvation to preserve “the unity of ‘The faith'” (i.e. “fully knowing doctrine”) (Eph 4:12-14; 2 Tim 3:10), is attained (as in Phil 3:10-17) only when law becomes love (Rom 7:7,12-16,22,25; 2 Tim 4:3-8; 1 Jn 5:2&3), when doctrine purged of human tradition is accepted wholeheartedly for application by the rule of faith, by remembering to treat the wisdom of the Hebrew Scriptures as the elder “SISTER” of the New Testament (Prov 6:23; 7:1-4), because the Torah and the Prophets, the womb of and nurturing influence on our right-understanding of the “everlasting covenant” (Heb 13:20,21), are not only ‘no stranger’ to either love or life inspired from above, but are written to help us reconcile grace and law, faith and obedience, and therefore love and sacrifice of self-will (2 Jn vs 5&6).

That being so, who amongst us, having the evidence of Deut 18:19 and Acts 3:23 before us, would dare persist in believing the self-indulgent fallacy that grace and the love of YHVH do NOT operate within sharply defined boundaries, for our ultimate good (Matt 7:13,14).

The Torah (in conjunction with the Prophets and the writings), brings a sobering check and balance to the ecstasy of misrepresentation of the Gospel as a rose-strewn highway to eternal life.

Not DEFINING love correctly, impairs our EXPERIENCE of the life INTENDED for the chosen WHO WISELY DO NOT GRIEVE THE SPIRIT (Eph 1:4,5; 4:23,24,30).

What SHOULD be “our life and the length(ening) of our days” (Prov 3-7; Deut 32:47) remains what COULD be (Deut 11:13,21), because we dispute the “it,” in “IT (i.e. “ALL the Words [“the Way of life”]…which you shall COMMAND your children to observe to DO…”) is not a VAIN (futile) thing for you…” in Deut 32:46,47.

That clear instruction dates back to YHVH’s Instruction to Abraham in Gen 18:18,19, which Abraham could issue to his dynasty without hypocrisy because he himself had learned to love and appreciate the efficacy of the wisdom of the Holy Torah then in existence Gen 26:5.

Y’shua as Seed of Abraham, was handed Abraham’s baton, as we see Gen 17:1; 18:18,19 reflected exactly in Matt 5:17-19,48; 26:5and again in 2 Tim 3:14-17.

The Hebrew Scriptures (the “Sacred Writings” of 2 Tim 3:15) were PRESCRIBED to REDEEMED Timothy as daily spiritual nourishment for reproof and correction, establishment of sound doctrine for training in righteousness, to keep the Messianic household of Abraham in “the Way of YHVH,” by ratification of the “laws of life” (Rom 7:7,12-16,22,25) as the “Way of Holiness” (Is 35:8) which is “the Way (or Path) of Life” (Ps 16:11; Prov 6:23).

We weren’t promised a honeymoon THIS side of the first Sukkot/Tabernacles of the millennial Kingdom age (consummation of marriage), BUT, if we treat our courtship as a Heaven-sent opportunity to be increasingly conscientious in our consecration to DOING truth and righteousness, we will certainly taste more of the “powers” and benefits of the age to come (Heb 6:4,5), even though THAT degree of commitment will undoubtedly make us targets for tribulations, which, with our co-operation, our God will turn into character-forming exercises of faith under fiery pressure (Acts 14:22; 2 Tim 3:12).

English believer and thinker Francis Bacon insightfully observed:

“PROSPERITY is the blessing of the Old Testament; ADVERSITY is the blessing of the New which carrieth the GREATER BENEDICTION and the clearer revelation of God’s favour. The virtue of prosperity is TEMPERANCE; the virtue of adversity is FORTITUDE, which in the study of morals, is the more HEROIC virtue. The good things which belong to PROSPERITY are to be WISHED; but the good things that belong to ADVERSITY, are to be ADMIRED. Certainly, if miracles are the command over nature, they appear MOST in ADVERSITY”

“…the pencil of the Holy Spirit hath laboured more in describing the afflictions of Job (and Paul), than the felicities of Solomon.”

“Certainly, virtue is like precious odours, most fragrant when they are incensed or crushes: for prosperity doth best discover (reveal) VICE; but ADVERSITY doth best discover VIRTUE” in which there is glory (2 Peter 1:3).

“Prosperity is not without many fears and distastes; while adversity is not without COMFORTS and HOPES” (2 Cor 1; 12).

He described Christian RESOLUTION (the fruit of FORTITUDE), as “sailing the ‘frail bark’ (boat) of the flesh through the waves of the world.”

“It is true greatness to have in one the frailty of a man, and the security of a god,” he wrote (Ps 82:6; Jn 10:35).

By teaching us “the Way of YHVH,” through the knowledge of YHVH gained through experiences pre-ordained for patient endurance in the crucible of refining fire (Mk 9:49; Rom 5:3-5; 1 Peter 5:6-12; 4:12-18), it is the chief purpose of the New Covenant to teach us the honour to be received and conferred by overcoming ANY eventuality with thanksgiving (Eph 5:20; 1 Thess 5:16-18; Heb 13:15) through total dependence upon our Father by His Spirit, through His Son, for their “praise, honour and glory” (1 Peter 1:1-9).

The Holy Torah is to be magnified (Ps 138:2; Is 42:21) as the chief wisdom-repository in Messiah (Matt 13:44-46,52; Col 2:2,3) to keep us perfectly aligned with the full counsel through the faith of Y’shua (Rom 3:31; Rev 12:17; 14:6,7,12), for our successful preparation for glorification in the First Resurrection (Rom 8:4,17,23,29; Rev 20:6).

HalleluYaH

Lyric for hymn referred to above:

“Here I Raise My Ebenezer…”

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, written by English pastor Robert Robinson in 1758.

Come, thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace; streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above. Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it, mount of Thy redeeming love.

Here I raise my Ebenezer; hither by Thy help I’m come; and I hope, by Thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; He, to rescue me from danger, interposed His precious Blood.

O to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be! Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to Thee. Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love; here’s my heart, O take and seal it (sanctify it – Jn 17:17,19; Acts 20:32; 26:18; Rom 15:16-18; 1 Thess 5:23; 2 Thess 2:13,14), seal it for Thy courts above.

[It is a Hymn about God’s amazing grace and His amazing faithfulness…that He seeks us out when we are not seeking him, showers us with His mercy in Jesus, and holds onto us no matter what, especially when we are not faithful ourselves]

How to Understand our Call to Perfection, with some Help from Exodus 21-24

“What is man, that Thou art mindful of Him and shouldest MAGNIFY Him (“ye are gods”) and set Thou heart upon him…Be ye therefore PERFECT, even as your Father Who is in Heaven is perfect…observe ALL things WHATSOEVER I have COMMANDED YOU…” (Job 7:7; 22:21-23; Ps 8:4; Matt 5:48; 28:20)

There’s a veiled truth of startling significance to Israel and to the rest of humanity in Jn 10:34 which, quoted from Ps 82:6, Y’shua-Jesus recited in His defence: “I have said: ‘Ye are gods and ALL of you are children of the Most High (sons of God),” stopping short of verse seven (“but ye shall die like men (i.e. “in Adam”)…” which in that moment would have unnecessarily discouraged those accusing Him of blasphemy for claiming identity with God (Jn 10:30,31,36-39). He was using the carrot in preference to the stick

He was graciously offering them the choice which faith in Him represented, between “the death of the righteous” (Nu 23:9) and the dreadful finality of eternal death “in Adam,” by conveying to them the unbreakable, eternal Mystery of the Gospel (“the Scripture cannot be BROKEN” – Jn 10:35), which is that God with us (Is 7:13,14) as the Messiah-Christ in us as “the brightness of the glory and express image of the Person” of the uniplurality of the Godhead (Heb 1:3; Jn 10:30) is our hope of glory (restated plainly by Paul in Col 1:26-29), as we shake off the image of mere man and by aspiring to manifest the promise that “ye are gods” in our own lives, reclaim the image and likeness of God, through imitation of Y’shua’s virtuous example as Son of God to have life and life more abundantly (Jn 10:10), for He Who IS God, to BE God of a sanctified remnant of “gods” (Gen 1:26; Rom 8:29; Eph 4:22,23; Col 3:10).

That is the ideal of humanity raised to perfection in the Messiah (by overcoming all residual sin to delegitimize any grounds for satan to reserve a claim upon us), which formerly, even the angels couldn’t comprehend.

Imagine being able to say the same thing as our Master: satan “has nothing in me” (nothing in us in common with darkness in terms of persistent sin – 1 Jn 1)

For that, satan wanted the LORD’s Blood and is pursuing us to the death, if that were possible, because the proclamation, “ye are gods,” is way too much for his overweening pride to bear.

Wasn’t unborn Adam, created and formed perfect in the image and likeness of YHVH as a glorified immortal god-man-son of God, as a foretaste of the new birth, forerunner of the calling to stand perfect and complete in all the will of YHVH, the vocation WE inherit through the Last Adam? (Eph 4:1; Col 4:12).

Isn’t it the rôle of the glorified “Last Adam,” the Quickening Spirit Who “took on the seed of Abraham” to be the Seed of David (both “earthy” AND “from Heaven” – Rom 1:3,4; Heb 2:16), to be fully representative of what unborn Adam was originally as primordial Adam, as well as fully representative of what he PARENTED as the fallen human species (from which “Abram the Hebrew” was called out), to raise all who pursue the perfection of holiness in the love and power of God (2 Cor 7:1) to the “high degree” Adam enjoyed as “the first man” and prototype of the Son of David (1 Chr 17:17; 1 Cor 15:45-47) before the calamity of sin?

Isn’t this the principle cause of the ‘tikkun ha olam’ (the need for regeneration and repair of the world) which demanded expiation of sin by the Blood of the Creator Himself (Col 1:16-21), for His universal Jn 3:16 love for the world to produce the miracle of purification of the soul which can be accomplished only by the Spirit through obedience to the faith by obedience to the will of YHVH through refinement by fire to attain the unity of the faith which is defined by sound doctrine (Rom 1:5; Mk 9:49; Eph 4), so that schisms cease and men no longer profane God and reflect poorly on the efficacy of YHVH’s design by bringing reproach on themselves.

We should love and marvel at the way YHVH the Almighty “so loved the world…”, offering TO HIMSELF the redemption-price necessary to APPEASE (to propitiate) HIMSELF, AS the ransom necessary to restore the innocence of Eden to all creation which man’s breach of His image and likeness set at nought, and gifting us with His holy Instruction (Torah) to show us exactly, by the Spirit, HOW to keep the original innocence restored by salvation by grace, IN PERFECT TRIM, so that the regeneration will not be subject to defilement by a repeat of man’s former folly.

The LORD, the MESSIAH, is washing His Ekklesia (‘church’) from all trace of the fall of man by offering His congregations everywhere, instruction in sound doctrine for us to come to the Cross in repentance from prejudice, error, contention, dissension and complacency, to turn from disobedience to the wisdom of the righteous (Lk 1:17; Rom 3:31; 15:16-18; Eph 4:11-17,22-24; 5:10,15-17,25-27), for Him to be “fully formed” in us as He conforms us wholly to His image by His Spirit (Rom 8:29; Gal 4:19; Col 3:9,10; 1 Thess 2:13,14; 2 Thess 2:13), to present to Himself a spotless, blameless bride to be “blessed and holy,” for the second death to have no power over a faithful, glorious remnant (Heb 5:9; 02 Peter 3:9-18; Rev 17:14; 20:6).

If anyone needs STRONG MOTIVATION to find out how to be perfect in the sight of the Living God our Saviour WHO AS THE MESSIAH OBEYS HIMSELF, AS OUR EXAMPLE (Is 45:21-23; Jn 10:30; 14:31; 15:10; 1 Jn 2:3-6,17), let him soberly consider the fact that not every Christian will be a child of the First Resurrection.

That distinction is only for those who through resolute, dedicated and timeous preparation will have mastered their souls (by allowing the Holy Spirit to rewrite their worldly behavioural code with Godly “precept upon precept, line upon line…”) to be holy, to be “accounted worthy” of the victory designation of overcomers (“the blessed and HOLY”) WHO WILL NOT BE MANY (Is 28:9-13; Matt 7:13,14; Lk 20:35,36; 2 Tim 2:5; Rev 19:7-9; 20:6)

As this revelation of the UTMOST PURITY of the bride makes a deeper impression, as INIQUITY and IMPURITY overtake the world (Rev 22:11), many more sincere believers will come to regard the Gospel as the Finished Work (of Atonement for Torahlessness) which PAVES THE WAY for the ‘Finishing School of the Holy Spirit’ (the Master’s master-classes in the Way of YHVH – Is 28:9-13; 50:4,5; Matt 11:29,30; Eph 4:20) to produce harvests of cum laude graduating classes (Lk 6:40) in the discipline of the “doctrine according to Godliness” (Rom 6:17; 1 Tim 6:3), which develops “true Holiness” in conscientious, true and faithful seed of Torah-wise Abraham, to be without spot, harmless, faultless and blameless (Gen 18:18,19; 26:5; 2 Cor 11:1,2; Gal 3:29; Eph 4:11-16; 22-24; Phil 2:15,16; Col 1:22,23,28,29; 4:12; Heb 12; 1 Jn 3:4; Jude vs 24-26).

Nowhere in any of the God of Jacob’s covenants, is eternal life guaranteed by CONFESSION of truth ALONE (Matt 12:50; Rom 2:6-13; Heb 5:9; James 1:22-25; 2:8-26), because justification by faith in the Blood must produce abundant corresponding fruit of righteousness through obedience to the commandments as proof of repentance, for our sanctification (Acts 10:35; 26:18,20), for God to “justify the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness” (1 Kings 8:23,32; Ps 103:17,18; 1 Cor 7:19; 11:1,2; James 2:14-26; Jn 5:28,29; 1 Jn 2:29; 3:7; Rev 14:12).

Our salvation by grace is TESTED by our acceptance of and our willingness to enter into the marriage covenant of commandments “given in commandment” to “enter into YHVH’s oath” to consider us as His people and establish us as His people (Ex 19:5-8; 24:8; 34:27,28,32; Deut 28:9; 29:9,12-15), just as it was by Israel AFTER their Passover salvation-rescue, for us to walk LAWFULLY after the Spirit as Moses and Y’shua-Jesus did (Is 63:11-14; Rom 7:25; 8:1-4,14; 2 Tim 2:5), to “remain forever” in Christ (1 Jn 2:3-6,17).

The text is explicit: He will be to THEM a God, and THEY (those who co-operate with His Spirit to write His laws on their hearts to keep them as the apple of their eye) shall be to Him a people (Prov 7:1-3; Jer 31:31-34; Heb 8:10,11; 10:16)

So in any discussion of genuine “EVERLASTING salvation” (Is 45:17-25) and the wholehearted commitment to the spiritual growth to perfection needed that assure it, the following commandment should be taken very seriously

God would be an arbitrary and unjust Ruler had He created us as His offspring (Acts 17:28-32) without a conscience to recognize the iniquity of unrighteousness (our departure from the Way – Rom 3:12) and without free-will with capacity to receive a measure of faith as a deposit to acknowledge the need for repentance to receive salvation, to receive the Anointing and HIS own discernment, to examine and judge our own lives thereafter by the Spirit, to examine whether we’re actually in the genuine Gospel and therefore in the faith as described in the full counsel of God’s Word, to make our being called and chosen a certainty (1 Cor 11:28-32; 2 Cor 13:5; 2 Peter 1:10,11).

So too would He be unjust if He had not provided a baseline as plumbline to know whether and when we’ve been “perfectly trained” (Jn 6:40; Col 1:28), with a failsafe method (the vital ‘Berean test’ of two or more corroborating witnesses to truth from the Torah and the Prophets, in Acts 17:11; 24:14; 2 Cor 13:1) for us to mark and measure our own progress towards our perfection in holiness (2 Cor 7:1; Phil 2:12,13; Heb 12:14,28), as proof of our separation from the world (2 Cor 6; Rev 18:4,5), as proof of our professed love for God and fellow man (Mk 12:29-32).

God studies behaviour every minute (Job 7:17,18).

We are being minutely evaluated moment by moment, to give an account when the Books are opened (Lk 20:35; 2 Cor 5:9-11; Rev 20:12)

Behaviour reveals the heart, which God reads like a book.

The heart (the spirit of man which ought to be “the candle of the LORD”) is the rudder of the soul which determines our fate.

There’s no place to hide from Divine scrutiny.

Every behaviour EXCEPT reflex reactions (like involuntary adrenalin-charged responses to real or perceived danger) will be judged by the eternal moral law.

Our thought, perceptions and attitudes (how we garden our minds) determine our inclinations and actions, which is why temptation (often a test of our morality and free will) leads to death if not resisted by renewal (rewiring) of the mind (James 1:12-15).

Paul uses unnatural affection as a prime example, in Romans (Rom 1:18-32).

James generalizes, referring to failure to sanctify the soul as “friendship OF the world” (James 4:4,5).

God’s emphasis on our responsibility for what we do with our minds, in Romans 12:1,2, is a HUGE test of our commitment to “be perfect” (Matt 5:48; 2 Cor 13:8-11), to “do nothing against the truth,” to be “as our Master” (Lk 6:40).

Pastors who are not administering this revelation to their congregations, and urging that it be made a priority, are falling far short of their “charge” to help the Holy Spirit prepare a sanctified remnant (1 Tim 6:11-14).

Secrecy cannot veil unrighteousness (Job 34:21,22; Ps 139:7,8,12; Prov 15:3; Jer 23:24; Lk 8:17; Heb 4:13).

To be perfect (love being made perfect in us for us to be in the world AS HE IS, being the goal of faith) requires a heart and therefore a life to be regulated by Kingdom norms, in the form of the principles of righteousness which inundate the text of the Bible, for us to discover (Ps 119:45; Prov 25:2; 1Jn 4:17).

Evangelism is the ground floor of the spiritual house God is building, in that salvation (restoration of original innocence) is the first rung of the ladder of redemption of error and unbelief through conversion to the Way, that leads to redemption of our bodies (Rom 8:23) for those who “seek for immortality (eternal life)” through “continuance” in the ways of God, to “lay hold on eternal life” by guarding their hearts from repeat-contamination by sin, through growth in spiritual maturity in the use of the meat of the Word to REMAIN CLEAN, to be PURE, even as Y’shua is pure (Is 64:5; Jn 15:3,4; Rom 2:6-13; 8:4,23; 1🍖Tim 6:11-14; Heb 4&5; 1 Jn 3:3-10).

On the rare occasions when Israel walked in full repentance, their God described them as “Yeshurun,” ideal Israel observing mercy and justice/judgment by the rule of faith (Matt 23:23).

There is no merit in “dwelling carelessly,” instead of circumspectly (accurately) in all the ways of God (Zeph 2:3,15; Eph 5:10,15-17; Rev 3:10; 14:12)

He does not change. The bride (of which Israel has always been the firstfruits as the firstfruits of YHVH’s harvests – Jer 2:1-3; Rom 1:16; 2:9,10), will be endtime ‘Yeshurun,’ as perfected “gods” – the “jewels” who make up His OBEDIENT “peculiar treasure” (Ex 19:5-8; Deut 32:15-21; 33:26-29; Mal 3:16-18; Jn 10:35; Heb 5:9; 10:26,36; 12:28; 1 Jn 2:17).

If “we believe the deed was done, which shook the Earth and veiled the sun” (Anglican Hymn) for the Resurrection to justify us for newness of life, then proof that WE too delight in the law of the LORD, is the commitment which the Almighty expects of us, to demonstrate that impeccable life of the Son of God to the world (Ps 1; Rom 3:31; 7:22,25; 8:4).

I Jn 1:5-10 shows us that once we’re acquitted of sins past and reconciled to the Father through the remission of our sins (Rom 3:25), the Blood covers those who ALLOW the purging, cleansing and purifying work of the Spirit to help them uphold the call to holiness (Phil 2:12,13; 2 Cor 7:1), by learning to maintain unbroken fellowship by walking in the light; and that the Blood was shed to preserve THEM through their inevitable trial and error application of the knowledge of the ways of YHVH as they CONSCIENTIOUSLY close-in on perfection (narrowing their walk to match the narrow path) by faithfully working out their own salvation, to win the prize of life.

Those who defy the Gospel by expressing no interest in being led by the Spirit on the narrow path of sanctification (Rom 8:4,6,7,14), will at some point discover that that grace (the Blood covering) is no longer available to them because of having irrevocably grieved the Spirit by entertaining falsehoods which compromise the required integrity of holy sonship (Acts 5:32; Eph 4:22,23,30; 2 Thess 2:10-15; Heb 10; Rev 22:14,15,18,19).

Many more of us should pay attention to 1 Jn 1:6&7 to avoid complacency, because the Gospel is a stringent call to STUDY righteousness, to DO it as the work of love (Is 51:1-7; 64:5; Heb 4:11-14; 5:1-12; Titus 3:14).

No-one can fulfil that call, to “FULLY know doctrine” to “make FULL proof of their ministry,” unless their LOYALTY to the Word of God as a SEAMLESS REVELATION from Genesis to Revelation, is TESTED by STUDY of THE Torah (the first five Books) and Torah (Instruction throughout the Bible) in general, as their staple nourishment (Rom 15:4; 2 Tim 3:10,12-17; 4:5), to be the seal of Paul’s apostleship (1 Cor 9:2; 2 Cor 3:2,3).

Anyone who has an issue with the Torah had best read Rom 15:4. It’s not just background reading.

“LEARN of Me” said our Master, the Word (Deut 31:13; Matt 11:29,30; Rom 3:20). His easy yoke (the yoke of the Kingdom) which is not burdensome (as we can see from the glowing tributes to the wisdom of God’s ways in Ps 119), is Torah amplified and more perfectly explained in the light of the New Covenant, without uprooting the foundation of truth in the Hebrew Scriptures (Matt 5-7; Rom 3:31; 1 Jn 5:2,3).

“Learn of Me” is code for learning the Fear of God by learning the marvellous ways of the Way of the LORD, from a-z, to be COMPREHENSIVELY OBEDIENT (Deut 4:10; 5:29; 7:12; Col 4:12; Rev 14:6,7,12).

To those who obviously weren’t diligent in this matter, either in learning or application, Paul said “But ye have not so learned Christ” (Eph 4:20).

How to serve the LORD our God is life’s greatest quest (Ex 23:25,26, also 7:9-15; 15:26). That quest MUST begin deep in the first Books of the Bible, or the threads of truth running onward to Revelation in a brilliantly predetermined architecture, will inevitably be muddled.

This may not seem obvious to those who are unfamiliar with the PATTERNS of doctrines rooted in the Hebrew Scriptures, but The Most High began the work of presenting to Himself a glorious EKKLESIA, in the church in the WILDERNESS which drank from Y’shua the Messiah their spiritual Rock Who followed them and Whose Spirit taught and led Moses (Is 63; Acts 7:38; 1 Cor 10; Eph 5:27).

He was no less interested in Israel being holy and without blemish THEN, than in our lives and in our adopting nation’s FUTURE as chief of nations (Deut 4:5-8; Jer 31:31-34), because Eph 5:27 refers to the one and only church of the House of Jacob the firstborn amongst whose sanctified remnant, we are grafted in (Jer 31:31-36; Lk 1:33; Rom 11; Heb 12:23).

The profound finished work of THEIR Gospel (of which they had a foretaste in the desert – Heb 4:2) describes a purchased reality (this “newness of life” – Rom 6:4) which must be patiently  IMPLEMENTED by sacrifice of self-will, for it to manifest to its fullness.

This is because OBEDIENCE and SPRINKLING (1 Peter 1:2b) run like a gilded twisted cord from Genesis to Revelation, holding the covenant together in perfect proportions.

The notion that the PRINCIPLE of there being no REMISSION of sins without the shedding of blood (without which there would have been no need for the Crucifixion) is NOT accompanied by a demand upon our loving OBEDIENCE, is an absurdity.

Hebrews confirms the opposite in Heb 9:19,20 where we read “This is the blood of the Testament (should read “Covenant”) which God hath ENJOINED unto you.”

This is implied in 1 Cor 11:25 and Lk 22:20.

Sprinkling of Blood is worthless without a baptismal faith commitment to be holy by being baptized into Y’shua’s death. This is Paul’s and Peter’s main point in Rom 6 and 1 Peter 1.

“Enjoined” means PRESCRIBED. The blood ENTAILS submission to the Messiah as MASTER. This is obvious in our confession in Rom 10:9 and in Heb 10:26-36.

The Hebrew Gospel is no less than a PRESCRIPTION for perfection through “obedience to righteousness,” made possible by the Sacrifice of “Christ our Passover” and the Gift of the Spirit (Lk 16:17; Rom 6; 1 Cor 5:7,8).

Luke 6:40 is therefore one of the greatest affirmations in Scripture, as the distillation of the promise of the feasibility of attaining perfection. We should all know it by heart: “…Everyone who is perfect, shall be as his Master” (KJV).

The very idea that a human being can be “like (or as) God,” as in “Ye ARE gods” (Jn 10:34), is revolutionary. This is the promise of the Crucifixion. This should motivate us daily to rise to the challenge of perfection by learning to love His ways.

Many more believers are coming to regard the Gospel as the Finished Work (of Atonement for sin which is Torahlessness – 1 Jn 3:4) which paves the way for the Finishing School of the Holy Spirit (the Master’s master-classes in “the Way of YHVH” – Gen 18:18,19; Is 28:9-13; 50:4,5; Matt 11:29,30; Eph 4:20) to produce harvests of cum laude graduating classes (Lk 6:40) in the discipline of the “doctrine according to Godliness” (Rom 6:17; 1 Tim 6:3) which develops “righteousness and TRUE Holiness,” from conscientious, true and faithful seed of Torah-wise Abraham, to be impeccable: without spot or wrinkle, harmless, faultless and blameless (Gen 18:18,19; 26:5; 2 Cor 11:1,2; Gal 3:29; Eph 4:11-16; 22-24; Phil 2:15,16; Col 1:22,23,28,29; 4:12; Heb 12; 1 Jn 3:4; Jude vs 24-26).

If the church weren’t so distracted from truth by tradition, 1 Cor 1:10 (the basis for perfection) wouldn’t seem an unrealistic goal

Israel went directly to Sinai to receive the bridal contract after the sacrifice of that first Passover (Ex 12:27); we were meant to go directly to Torah class to learn doctrine from Torah in order not to pull up the foundations of the Gospel (Acts 24:14; 2 Tim 3:14-17), to agree with that same contract, to learn YHVH’s ways be a faithful wife to the Lamb, after our translation out of our Egypt by reconciliation with the Father.

The first Passover foreshadowed our salvation. That sacrifice saved Israel through sprinkling, but their eligibility as individuals to enter the inheritance (crossing the Jordan represents entry into the everlasting Kingdom – 2 Peter 1:1-11) was repeatedly tested during their wilderness discipleship (instruction) in obedience. So too, our worthiness to inherit the age and world to come will hinge on our history as disciples (instructed ones) – on our willingness and obedience to be trained to perfection on the ladder of sanctification to be true sons in Messiah’s House (Lk 1:33; 17:10; 20:35; Heb 3:6-18; 12:14; 1 Peter 1:2).

It is the PRACTICE of righteousness, to produce abundant, “peaceable fruit of righteousness,” to be holy (Rom 6:22; Heb 12), that MAKES PERFECT.

The “crown of righteousness” (2 Tim 4:3-8) which awaits the DOCTRINALLY PURE who despite inevitable tribulations (suffering for righteousness) (Acts 14:22; Eph 4:13,14; 2 Tim 3:12; 2 Tim 3:10) keep the holy requirements of the faith as proof of ‘winning Christ’ (Phil 3:10-16), SEPARATES those committed to making the fallen image of Adam EXTINCT (by replicating and thereby exalting the image of the Last Adam, the man from Heaven, our God and Saviour), from also-ran’s (1 Cor 9:24-27).

A silversmith stops refining only when his image is perfectly visible in the metal he needs to repeatedly heat to obtain that result. Seven times is the norm.

YHVH as Master Gold and Silversmith is no less patient and painstaking, masterfully devising circumstances to throw necessary revelation knowledge of His WAYS into sharp relief, in the expectation that we’ll “turn from disobedience to the wisdom of the just,” for Him to conform us to the perfect image of His Son Who after all, is “the brightness of His Father’s Glory and the express image of His Person” (Rom 8:29; Heb 1:1-3).

Let’s see whether the Torah Portion (Ex 20:24-24:18) which was scheduled for this past Shabbat (29th January) and which begins in Ex 20 immediately after the Proclamation of the Ten Words (that distinguish between VIRTUE and BARBARIANISM/PHILISTINISM), can help us understand how to get to the ideal of perfect sonship portrayed in Matt 5:48 and Colossians 4:12, from what is written in Heb 10:10,12-14 and 13:12,20,21.

In other words, WHY and HOW, since the LORD “HATH (already) forever perfected” us by sanctifying us once-and-for-all by the Offering of His Body and the Blood of the Everlasting Covenant, are we now commanded to be perfect (“wholly sanctified spirit, soul and body) “in every good WORK,” to be “as our Master,” by doing His will (Matt 5:48; 12:50; Lk 6:40; Jn 17:17,19; Eph 2:8-10; 1 Thess 4:1-3; 5:23; Rev 2:5,26; 3:1-6; 14:6,7,12).

The simplest and most obvious reason is that just because INIQUITY is no longer imputed to us (Rom 4:3-8), does not give us permission to continue persisting in defiling behaviours (1 Cor 3:17; Gal 2:17-19; 2 Tim 2:19-26; Titus 2:14), any more than just because RIGHTEOUSNESS is imputed to us, we can claim to BE righteous without DOING works of righteousness necessary to remain sanctified by the Blood, as proof of repentance from sin, which is breach of Torah (Acts 10:35; 20:25-32; 26:18,20; Rom 2:13; 3:31; 8:4; Eph 2:10; 4:23,24; 2 Thess 2:13,14; Heb 10:26-36; James 1:22-25; 2:6-26;;1 Jn 2:3-6,17,28,29; 3:3-10).

Perfection IS attainable, because it was imputed to us along with original innocence when we were made whole, to go and sin no more (Jn 15:3), when by grace we BECAME “the righteousness of YHVH in Y’shua” (1 Cor 1:30; 2 Cor 5:21) and received power and grace (the enabling power and anointing of the abiding Presence of the Holy Spirit) to “become” those spotless, faultless, unblameable sons as “partakers of His glory” by “serving Him acceptably (mixing faith with the Word because faith without corresponding works is dead) with reverence and Godly Fear” in “the obedience of faith” to be obedient to the vocation of “the one faith” (Mal 1:6; Jn 1:12; Rom 1:5; 15:16-18; 16:26; Eph 4:1-5; Col 1:28; Heb 12; Jude vs 3,21,24,25).

The answer to the question: HOW are we commanded to “be ye therefore perfect even as your Father in Heaven is perfect” (Matt 5:48; 2 Tim 3:14-17) is given in the beautiful and practical analogy of a perfect shadow.

We are to cut the identical spiritual SILHOUETTE as our God-Saviour-Master (to render Him the Honour and FEAR due to His Name – Mal 1:6; Rev 14:6,7) by “walking IN Him” (Col 2:6) by “putting OFF the old man” (i.e. renewing the spirit of one’s mind to PURGE and RESET our hearts to show we’ve achieved 1 Cor 1:10; Eph 4:13,14; Heb 8:10,11, by replacing detrimental behaviours which trigger the curse of the law of sin and death, with the blessing of the spiritual laws of YHVH described in the tussle in Rom 7:7,12-16,22-25) to “put on the Master Y’shua the Messiah” in thought, word and deed by following after righteousness for the Way of the LORD (originally known in part by Abraham) “to be fulfilled in us” just as it was in Y’shua by walking after the Spirit in obedience to the covenant (Gen 18:18,19; 26:5; Rom 2:13,26; 3:31; 6:6,10-13; 8:4,6,7,14; 13:9-14; Eph 4:22-24; Col 2:6; 3:5-10; 1 Tim 6:11-14; Jn 14:21-24; 15:1-15; 1 Jn 2:3-6; 5:3).

By learning and faithfully ENACTING our righteousness, is how we consummate the perfection freely attributed to us when first receiving salvation, as an act of good faith on YHVH’s part that He is well able (provided we co-operate) to purify us to perfection, to be worthy vessels of honour (Lk 20:35; Rom 9:21-23; Phil 1:6; Jude vs 24,26).

He promises that HIS Son’s character and perfected walk can likewise be OUR experience as the result of CLEAVING to Him in constant willing obedience to righteousness (Ps 15:1,2; 50:5,23; 106:3; Rom 6:12-22), which is when we become “dead to the law” by being “dead to sin” (a lawabiding walk puts us beyond righteous judgment of transgressors by the law) as PROOF OF LOVE (Deut 30:10-20; Rom 6:2; Gal 2:19; 2 Tim 2:5; 1 Jn 5:3; 2 Jn vs 5&6).

He will settle for nothing less than a heart that mirrors His own (2 Tim 2:19-21).

Sinai ITSELF was sanctified, to be fit to be the set apart place for Israel, the proto-bride, to be receptors of the foundations of the moral law upon which the Sermon on the Mnt expands.

If our sanctification by the commandments transferred onto our hearts by the Spirit (the Finger of YHVH) (Jn 17:17,19; Heb 8:10,11) is treated with any less gravity than Israel’s UNANIMOUS response to the will of God in Ex 19:3-8; 24:3-8 (saved by the Passover lambs FOR inheritance of Instruction/Torah, to fully consecrate themselves with “We will do and be obedient”), we have a different heart from that of God Himself and therefore a different heart from that of a would-be “chaste virgin,” and very likely follow “a different spirit” (2 Cor 10:1-4).

Sifting the detail in the lists of precepts in Ex 20-24 by the Spirit Who is given to lead us into ALL truth (Jn 12-16; 2 Tim 4:13-17), does wonders to build respect for the Holiness of our One and Only God and His calling (Mk 12:29-32; 1 Peter 1:15; 2 Tim 1:9; 2 Peter 1:3) by tweaking our discernment of what SEPARATION from worldliness actually requires of us (2 Cor 6:14-18; Rev 18:4,5; James 4:4,5).

In Acts 7:38, the Holy Spirit Himself intentionally calls Israel in the desert His church of called-out ones, to leave US no excuse for treating God’s holy laws with disdain, as if the Gospel were at enmity towards God (Rom 7 & 8).

Faith AND faithfulness (together = emunah in Hebrew) comprise the signature or ‘calling card’ of called-out ones who don’t make the mistake of magnifying the Holy Spirit ABOVE His Word (Ps 138:2), but who yield to the sanctifying work of the Spirit THROUGH acceptance and practice of “all truth” (Jn 17:17,19; 2 Thess 2:13,14).

There is none more wilfully ignorant than the soul who believes history is NOT a wise teacher in the hands of the Living God, and that our Master Y’shua, Head of the Household of God His Father, does NOT “bring forth out of His treasure, things OLD and new,” to refine our behaviour to perfection (Lk 1:33; Eph 2:19; 1 Cor 10:1-14; Col 2:2,3).

Note: “…old AND new.”

There’s more in the ‘Old’ Testament REFRESHED in the ‘New’ as our “heritage” as joint heirs in the eternal House of Jacob (Deut 33:4; Matt 5-7; Lk 1:33; Jn 10:16; Rom 3:31), than has entered the hearts of generations of professing believers, who would have done well to “awaken to the righteousness” of the precepts hidden in Torah for them to escape the defilement of the broad path that cunningly pretends to be the highway of liberty, including its deliberate obsfucation of the perpetuity of the ordinances of YHVH’s Sabbath and Seven Holy Convocations  (Ps 119:1,45; Matt 7:13-27; 1 Cor 11:1,2; 15:34).

HalleluYaH for His eagerness to help any of us who profess union with the House of Jacob in the Messiah, as “one new man” (Lk 1:33; Eph 2:15; 3:6), to know what sonship of THAT one-and-only sheepfold (Is 56:6-8; Jn 10:16) entails as our fundamental duties, to be “profitable servants” and NOT be accounted unworthy of escape by being amongst those who, “opposing themselves” through pride and prejudice against the full counsel (Acts 20:25-32) have jeopardized their sanctification by having “gone out of the Way” by not seeking after God ON HIS TERMS (Lk 17:10; 20:35; 21:36;;Rom 3:12; 2 Tim 2:25,26).

The man who lays his head on his pillow  without the Torah’s fine measurements of holiness in mind, to help procure him unbroken favour, will not long have peaceful nights as clouds of judgment gather over those who labour for acceptance stubbornly using the rule of faith of a quite different gospel (2 Cor 5:9-11; 10:1-4).

To SUM UP:

We prioritize study of the Torah (YHVH’s gift to greatly facilitate the Spirit’s calling to conform us to the image of His Son, the Living Torah) in conjunction with the rest of the Hebrew Scriptures, to strike the ideal balance because Matthew-Revelation is a SUMMARY of the New Covenant.

We do this to make sure that we’re omitting nothing that God has included in the Gospel of the New Covenant (which is hidden in the Hebrew Scriptures) for our TOTAL sanctification, without which no-one will see the LORD (1 Thess 5:23; Heb 12:14,28).

What then is perfection? (Ps 119:96-105; 2 Cor 13:9; Phil 3:12).

Perfection is attained through diligent covenant-keeping as proof of the purification of our souls, the deciding factor in the choice of the bride (Lk 21:19; 1 Peter 1:9).

Therefore, perfection is really the EXPECTANT WAITING which is necessary (letting the virtue of patience have her perfect work so that we can be “perfect and entire, lacking nothing” – James 1:4) for the seed of the Word to mature to harvest in the good soil of teachable hearts by the law of seed, time and harvest (Gen 8:22; Mk 4; Lk 8:15; 21:19) by allowing God the room to move in our lives to prove HOW IT IS, that not one of His precepts has been disqualified and disposed of by the New Covenant (Matt 5:17-19) – that none has a red line drawn through it to abrogate it by breaking, dissolving and cancelling it.

This is the Mystery of the “Everlasting Gospel” of “grace for grace” “from faith to faith” (Matt 13:11; Heb 4:2; Rev 14:6).

The purpose of this Mystery is to bind us to the Godhead by the Spirit in absolute trust in the wisdom of His perpetual regulation of our relationship with Him and others by commandment, ordinance and statute; in His interpretation of His regulations; and in the flawlessness of His directions

Anyone who takes a jaundiced (prejudiced) view of Torah Instruction (Rom 3:20b; 3:31; 7:25; 8:4,6,7) has rejected the spiritual law of seed time and harvest for themselves (by which perfection must be worked into them by working out their own salvation with fear and trembling), and by their choice of a limited diet of the Word,  dictates an outcome for themselves which will inevitably fall short of the full measure of the blessing of the Gospel and which may, under certain circumstances, cost them salvation as foolish virgins overtaken by the Day of Reckoning “as a thief,” BECAUSE OF DISAVOWING GOD’S STANDARD OF HOLINESS and disqualifying themselves from being “children of light and of the day” (Matt 7:21-27; 10:38,39; 25:10-12; 1 Thess 5:4-7).

If the essence of love is obedience, which it is (1 Jn 5:3), through Heaven’s Ultimatum to mankind to repent and obey or be forever lost (Acts 5:32; 17:30,31), the Gospel is simply eternity’s greatest standard and measure of purity, as PROOF of a loving God, because in Him is no darkness AT ALL, because He is LIGHT (1 Jn 1:5-7).

Interestingly, if one goes further into the Scriptural meaning of the common noun ‘church’ in the original Greek of Acts 7:38, namely, “called-out ones” as ‘klesia’ comes from ‘kaleo,’ meaning ‘called out,’ we find that we are being reminded that just as ” .. they are not all Israel who are OF Israel” (Rom 9:6), NOR are all who are called by the Name of the LORD to be OF the New Covenant remnant church, necessarily going to be accounted worthy of the resurrection of life, because while many are called, few are chosen, because few surrender all to meet the test of full consecration as their “reasonable service” (Ps 50:5,23; 64:4; Lk 20:35; Jn 5:28,29; Rom 2:6-13; 12:1,2).

Therefore there’s considerable strength in the theme of “calling out” from which Ekklesia, and therefore ‘church,’ is derived. The existence of Acts 7:38 (showing the church having originated as Jacob/Israel in the Exodus) proves that in every generation of the dynasty of Abraham, the redeemed remnant of the House of Jacob to which a remnant from the nations is being joined, as was the original “mixed multitude” (Ex 12:38; Is 14:1; Lk 1:33; Rom 11; Eph 2:11,12,15,19; Gal 3:29), is the GENUINE one, holy apostolic, ‘catholic’ (universal) General Assembly and Church of Jacob, YHVH’s firstborn son (Gen 25:22,23; 28:14; Ex 4:22,23; Heb 12:23).

Sadly, not only the Gentiles, but most Jews have also deviated from the authentic Gospel of faith, which is SYNONOMOUS with obedience.

Caleb and Joshua epitomized that reality in their day. Only two out of an entire generation, met the litmus test of faithfulness.

It takes “awakening to righteousness,” faith, courage and settled knowledge of God, to respond to being called out from the crowd to serve God acceptably (Ex 23:2; Rom 15:16-18; 1 Cor 15:34)

Shabbat 23rd January 2022 | Wisdom Portion Exodus 18:1 – 20:23

Culminating in the beautiful, immutable Ten Commandments, these must be three of the most pivotal chapters in the entire Bible, for providing LINKAGES in the full counsel to explain the sacrificial “vocation” of loving obedience (the performance of ’emunah’ = faith and faithfulness), to which we’ve all been called.

In Hebrew thought, faith is never detached from faithfulness. Even thanksgiving and believing for healing are acts of obedience – decisions of will. It is by observing both faith and faithfulness as one, that the righteous shall live (Hab 2:4). This is what Romans teaches in the three related references, Rom 1:5; 15:16-18; 16:26. Namely, obedience TO THE FAITH; obedience in word and deed, by the offering up ourselves by faith, to be acceptable through our sanctification by the Spirit; and the obedience OF faith, to uphold THE FAITH (by being faithful to its doctrines).

Faith which does not underscore and promote faithfulness, is sin because Scripture defines anything which is not of faith and faithfulness (to keep the concept of ’emunah’ intact), AS sin.

There’s no getting away from it.

If we’re not obeying His Voice (heeding His sayings), we’re not CLEAVING to Him. We’re rejecting the Life which He is in us, because His Life cannot co-exist with disobedience (Deut 30:10,11,14-20).

That being so, it may be worth mentioning here that if we love the precepts (God’s laws/ways which make us pure and keep us pure) LESS than the promises which offer an inheritance to those who are sanctified by the faith and faithfulness which are of the Messiah (Acts 20:32; 26:18; 2 Thess 2:13), we become a BURDEN upon the system of PURIFICATION of a bride

The fuel which our holy vocation runs on is “the obedience of faith” (a rather important phrase tucked away at the end of the final chapter of Romans) which “worketh by love” (Deut 6:4,5; Mk 12:29; Rom 1:5; 3:31; 15:16-18; 16:26; Gal 5:6; Eph 4:1), the UNDERSTANDING of which depends on knowledge and PRACTICE of “the Way of the LORD” known to Abraham and later codified and expounded by Moses, for finer interpretation by Y’shua the Messiah, as “a Prophet like unto thee (Moses)” (Gen 18:18,19; 26:5; Deut 18:18,19; Ps 111:10; Is 2:2-4; Acts 3:21; 24:14).

The grand idea of Sinai, missed by most who, through prejudice, look for ways to undermine the Hebrew Scriptures and who read Galatians as an all-out war against law (Gal 3&4), is that none other than a God Who is LOVE because He is LIGHT, could have spoken and written the indivisible Ten Words upon which the quality and continuity of civilization depends; and that therefore, HE, the ALMIGHTY, Who calls us out to be sons, not slaves (even saving Israel as “My son, even My firstborn”), to offer reciprocity to God in loving obedience to His Word when mixed with faith (Heb 4; 1 Jn 5:3), HAS NO EQUAL.

Only those who know no other way to act except UNDER COMPULSION, are bad adverts for the Sinai covenant which is subsumed within the New Covenant, when Y’shua IN us, our hope of glory, keeps all Ten for us (just as He “performs all things for us”) as we walk IN Him to live THROUGH Him by His indwelling Spirit inspiring obedience to His love, by grace (Rom 8:4,14; Jn 15:1-14; Heb 12:28).

The difference between being obedient under bondage to a slavewoman rather than obedient to the faith in the liberty of the Spirit as sons of a freewoman as children of promise, is like chalk and cheese

The law of the LORD is a delight mainly to those who appreciate what they WOULDN’T have, in the ABSENCE of its regulating influence on life through the wisdom of its teachings and tenets.

Filtered through the New Covenant, Sinai teaches us that a loving bride, knowing that we are sanctified by the commandments (Jn 17:17,19; 1 Cor 7:19; 1 Thess 4:1-3a; 2 Thess 2:13-15), and who doesn’t act under compulsion, unites all Ten Words (“given in commandmenT”) in her heart, knowing that those who divide them and modify them have no light in them and will see no light (Is 8:13,14,16,20; Rev 14:12).

Even before Sinai, Israel was aware of the Sabbath. Continuous since Gen 2:2,3, it was in their Abrahamic legacy (Gen 26:5).

The sages taught that Israel are His witness nation ‘who proclaim the THREE PART sanctification,’ which we find mentioned in 1 Thess 5:23, in order for a remnant of Israel to be brought to what they called ‘the final end of Redemption’ (physical resurrection of the body – Rom 8:23), ‘adorned,’ they say, with ‘the elevated Stone,’ an allusion to ‘winning Christ’ (receiving His crown of Life) by abiding in the Vine by remaining true to the commandments (Gen 49:24; Jn 15; Phil 3:10-16).

Of course, Lk 21:19; Rom 12:1,2; 2 Cor 7:1; Eph 4:23,24 and 1 Peter 1:9 all refer to the ‘three part sanctification’ of spirit, soul and body necessary for us to be blameless, holy and spotless.

So the sages were on the ball even though they weren’t able to understand the Messianic Reconciliation that would make our REMAINING PURE a necessity, by preserving our innocence by following after righteousness line by line precept by precept in order not to “destroy” what the Atonement “built” (rebirth by the Spirit) (Gal 2:17-19)

The Ten Words are all good.

Before prophecy was fulfilled to release captive Israel, Israel had had SIX TIMES the length of the Babylonian Exile (400-430 years) to ponder the goodness of their God and reflect on what national independence under their God’s benevolent laws would be like, not just for themselves, but for the world (Deut 4:5-8; Is 2:2-4).

Hebrew tradition seems very confident in stating that the “Feast unto Me” which Israel was summoned to hold “three days’ journey into the desert” as a sacrifice to YHVH, after YHVH wore down Pharaoh’s peevish and tempestuous resistance, was their first formal recognition and observance of SHABBAT as “a great and populous NATION,” rather than as individuals (such as Moses’ Levitical family would have done) (Ex 2:1-10; 5:1-3; 8:26-28; 10:9; 26:5-8).

This revelation of God’s wisdom by demonstration of Shabbat to Principalities and Powers by the elect nation of Israel as the church in the wilderness (their first foretaste of millennial peace in their flight from Egypt which had not yet brought them to the Reed Sea), became the first “sign” of their sanctification as a nation, following the sacrifice and sprinkling of the Passover (Ex 12:21-23,27; 31:13,16; Acts 7:38; Eph 3:10), hence the commandment in Deut 5:15 – “And remember thou wast a servant in the Land of Egypt and that the LORD THOU GOD brought thee out thence (by a sacrifice – Ex 12:27 and) with a mighty Hand and by a stretched out Arm (later symbolic of the Messiah as the Branch of YHVH and of Jesse, and the Ruler in Is 4:2; 11:1-12; 40:10) : THEREFORE the LORD thy God COMMANDED ye to KEEP the Sabbath Day.”

The same applies to us due to our translation from bondage to sin through the Sacrificial sprinkling of the Blood of “Christ our Passover” (1 Cor 5:7,8; 11:1,2; 1 Peter 1:2b).

Of considerable anecdotal interest is that Pharaoh evidently decided to pursue and recapture or destroy Israel only AFTER their consecration to keep Shabbat (now the Prologue to the Seven Feasts of YHVH) as a Feast to YHVH.

So we’re in good company.

This permanent thematic relationship between Shabbat and the Passover Feast of Unleavened Bread will take on new meaning for us personally if we’d consider the likely accuracy of the sages’ interpretation of Ex 12:49; 13:9,16 as Israel now being READY TO RECEIVE deliverance, IN ORDER TO receive the TORAH, because of what they had witnessed and suffered in pagan Egypt, AND because the iniquity of the Amorites had reached its fullness (Gen 15:16) as would Amalek later on, to be wiped out by the Messiah (Ex 17:13-16), and the world would need a robust witness of truth and righteousness in word and deed by Israel as chief of nations (Ex 19:8; Deut 4:5-8; Micah 4:1-8; 7:8-20; Zech 8:8), along with the Gospel of salvation by faith, for a reserved remnant to eventually be saved “to the uttermost” by being holy and blameless by keeping the Way by abiding in the Vine, by the Spirit (Is 2:2-4; 43:1-8; 44:1-11; Rom 3:31; 7:22,25-8:6,7,14,23;  11:11-15,25-29; Col 1:23,28; 4:12; 2 Peter 3:9-18).

According to the Passover pattern for deliverance and salvation, we too were delivered, and grafted into the House of Jacob when, in YHVH’s view and timing, WE were READY to receive Torah Instruction, though satan saw to it that no-one told us (2 Tim 3:14-17).

Clearly, the purpose of the Passover and the Exodus was to prove to posterity that YHVH the God of the Hebrews is God alone (Ex 10:7; 12:12; 15:11; 18:11; 20:3)  both Creator and Saviour, and that therefore none other exists (Is 44:6,8,24; 45:21,22); and that therefore, the one faith (which can be traced back to Seth and Enos in Gen 4:26 through Abraham the Hebrew) would forever be inseparable from the one law refined under the New Covenant as prophesied by Deut 18:19; Ex 12:49 and confirmed by Rom 2:13 and 3:31.

Once united with and “in” the Messiah through adoption and by commitment to serve and submit to Him as Master, the Ten Commandments which are the test of loyalty to the One God at the Judgment Seat of Christ, are life to those who labour for acceptance by doing them as their principal duty, as the foundation of righteous civilization (Deut 32:46,47; Eccl 12:13; Acts 10:35; 2 Cor 5:9-11; 1 Jn 2:3-6,17; 28,29; 2 Jn vs 5&6).

Just as we see reflected in the New Testament in Matt 5:19; 12:50; 28:20; 1 Cor 7:19; 11:1,2; 1 Thess 4:1-3a; 2 Thess 2:15 in descriptions of the narrow path of holiness (especially throughout John’s Gospel and letters and in His record of the Revelation – Rev 14:6,7,12; 22:14,15,18,19),  chapters 18-20 which climax in the marriage covenant of Ten Words given as one commandment (as we find out later in Ex 34:27,28,32 and James 2:6-26) leave us under no illusion that the ways of YHVH will ever be dispensed with.

Seeking out YHVH’s ways, line by line precept by precept (because they’re hidden in the lines AND between the lines by allusion and analogy) to remain “undefiled in the Way” (Ps 119:1,45; Jn 15:3; 1 Cor 3:17), will always be “the whole duty of man,” or we will be less than well acquainted with the requirements of the righteousness of God in Christ that we claim to BE (Eccl 12:13; Lk 12:47,48; 17:10; 2 Cor 5:21), and therefore impure (perhaps even nowhere close to being “chaste virgins”) by being wilfully ignorant, imperfect practitioners of the umbrella love command (Deut 30:10,11; 2 Cor 11:2; 1 Jn 3:3-10; 4:17; 2 Jn vs 5&6).

When human jurors do as they should, and “judge FOR YHVH,” it is our God judging between plaintiff and defendant according to HIS statutes and laws (Gen 18:16).

But since nations’ statutes as yet not conformed to God’s ways because those who labour in legal systems are not conformed to the image of YHVH (Rom 8:29), the results are at best imperfect.

Israel exists to arrive at the point when it will ‘hallow’ (sanctify, exalt, magnify, glorify) YHVH’s Name by exemplifying a legal system in perfect harmony with the Divine Statute Book (Ex 19:5-8; 24:8; Deut 4:5-8; 28:1-3,9,10; Matt 6:10).

This is why they will be feared and exalted as a nation (Deut 28:1-3,9,10; Is 46:13; Lk 2:32)

This is why we are warned sternly not to boast against the natural branches (Rom 11:18,22,25-29).

“Righteousness (in word and deed) exalts a nation”; and that righteousness entails rule-taking, to avoid being hypocritical

Sheep nations will follow Israel’s lead.

Since ALL the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in God as the Messiah (Col 2:3), we are given the Holy Spirit to comb the Torah from which the Rabbi of rabbi’s Y’shua was MADE (Jn 1:14), from a-z to know the mind of Christ, to steadily renew the spirit of our minds to be righteous as He is righteous, to be faultless and perfect by walking in Him (Matt 5:48; Col 1:22; 3:10; Eph 4:23,24; Phil 2:15; 1 Jn 2:29; 3:7).

So in this Portion we should be very encouraged to find yet another example of Heaven’s matchmaking in the pairing of Moses and the Priest of Midian, Jethro’s daughter Zipporah, which leads to YHVH counselling Moses through his father-in-law, to more efficiently establish Torah in Israel’s midst, which is always to our benefit in the long run, for this is why He bore Israel on eagles’ wings to bring them to Himself to be a peculiar possession (Ex 18; 19:1-8; Deut 4:5-8; Is 2:2-4; Rom 3:31).

We will be Torah teachers to the world with them, under Messiah’s millennial Instruction.

The fact that the PROPHETS hinge upon the Shema which affirms Torah (the Torah and the Prophets HANG upon the primary two commandments, to love YHVH with our all; and our neighbour as YHVH in the Messiah loved us), couldn’t be a greater endorsement of the purity and perpetuity of Torah, which is in Y’shua’s DNA and which most likely IS His DNA.

No wonder we’re encouraged to call Torah our “sister” and not to forsake “her” which has so much to offer, to illuminate the deeper meaning of teachings in the New Covenant.

Take a look at Prov 4:6 6:23; 7:2-4 for yourself.

We should never forsake our “sister” (wisdom=Instruction/Torah) but should love, exalt and embrace her!!!

That’s all contained in Matt 5:19 (confirmed in Rom 3:31) where Y’shua warns us never to discriminate against any mitzvah (precept; principle; requirement; good work of righteousness) but to treat all mitzvot (plural of mitzvah) with equal respect and consideration in order not to undermine our sanctification and forfeit blessing or needlessly incur penalties for disobedience.

Shabbat, 14th/15th Jan 2022 | Wisdom Portion Ex 13:17 – 17:16

This Portion (introduced by Ex 12 through 13:16) begins by highlighting the power in Hebrew prophecy to move the plan of redemption forwards by creating benchmarks for the faith, in the instructions “REMEMBER THIS day…” “KEEP THIS service” (Ex 13:3,5-10), in order to “stand fast” and “hold to” the Appointments given to prepare a bride doctrinally through the “meat” (mature wisdom) of Instruction associated with Shabbat and the Feasts (2 Thess 2:13-15; 2 Tim 3:14-17), to be in a perfect state of readiness to receive their sudden ingathering, accounted faithful and worthy to escape as wise virgins at the Last Shofar blast (Matt 25:10-12; Lk 20:35; 21:36; Col 1:28; 4:12; Rev 14:6,7,12; 17:14; 19:7-9).

Examples of dependence of the unfolding plan of redemption upon the authentic Set Times, is Prophecy to Abraham which came to pass on Passover exactly 430 years later (“even the SELFSAME day it came to pass”; “THIS is THAT night of YHVH”) (Gen 15:13-16; Ex 12:40-43) to establish the pattern for understanding “the Messiah (as) our Passover”; and Y’shua-Jesus would go to the Cross as the Lamb of YHVH on the exact day prophesied in Daniel and Zechariah and moreover, would give up His Spirit at the precise moment the priests completed the Passover sacrifices with the words: “It is finished” (“It” being sacrifice for sin, NOT TORAH).

In fact, the last three verses of this Portion (Ex 17:14-16) are a subtle reminder that Y’shua the Passover Lamb of YHVH returns as triumphant Lion of Judah to finish off AMALEK (universal type of the spirit of Gentile hatred for Zion, about to reach an all-time high), to complete the great cycle of prophecy that began with the prediction in Gen 15 that Israel would be delivered and released from their bondage to Mitzrayim’s enslavement on the first Passover, when the iniquity of the AMORITES had reached its fullness (Gen 15:16; Ex 12:40-42).

The fame which YHVH garnered for Himself in Gen 15 through His interventions against the gods and idolators in Egypt, will be ECLIPSED by His mercy to Israel and His church in the nations through His “terrible deeds of righteousness” to be waged against iniquity and Israel’s enemies in the Tribulation, concluding in the ‘Armageddon’ (Har/Mt Megiddo) Battle for global acceptance of Jerusalem’s final status as Hebrew world capital and Israel as chief of nations, the crowning accomplishment of New Covenant faith (Ps 66:3; 105:8-11; 137:5,6; Is 60-66; Jer 31:7,10,17 31-36).

It’s because the finer points of Torah study may seem incidental and marginal, but are often potent revelations given to escalate our faith and buttress our encouragement, that we ought never leave a Portion without scouting for hidden treasure.

An EXAMPLE: Ex 13:15,16 is a LAW that because of YHVH’s FAITHFULNESS, He has COMMANDED deliverances for Jacob (Ps 44:4) His purchased possession which is His chief righteous cause (Ex 15:13-16; Ps 7:6,7; 9:20; 68:34,35; 71:3; 74:2,19,22-24).

Ex 13:16 is saying YHVH will keep faith with us, and deliver us for Jacob’s sake according to Ps 44:4 & 71:3 provided we keep the precepts of His Way (Ex 13:9; Deut 7:12; Ps 103:17,18; 2 Chr 15:2; Is 29:22-24).

This is Glad Tidings to us too because we are surnamed by the God of Jacob and adopted by the House of Jacob to be amongst their “one new (Hebrew) man” remnant (Gen 28:14; Ps 59:13; Lk 1:32,33; Rom 11; Eph 2:11,12,15,19; 3:6; Gal 3:29).

With that in mind, the Portion this week quietly develops the CENTRAL PROPOSITION that Passover and Shabbat (which Rome illegitimately replaced with Easter and Sun day) are together FOREVER the ‘dual core’ (the allied “this is that’s” of the Creator-Redeemer-Deliverer-Sanctifier-God of the Hebrews’ Set Times) of the ordinances of “the everlasting covenant” (Ex 12:14,17,24,42; 16:23-30; Matt 12:8; Lk 22:1,16-18; Rom 3:31; 1 Cor 5:7,8; 11:1,2; Heb 13:20,21).

As core perpetual traditions integral to the Gospel because ordained by both ordinance and commandment (Ex 12:17,24; 20:8-11; 31:13,16; Matt 5:19; 1 Cor 7:19; 11:1,2; 15:1,2), they are the backbone of the plan of sanctification (1 Thess 5:23; 2 Thess 2:15) because they are the FOCAL POINT of the faith through their JOINT TESTIMONY that the Living God, the God of Jacob, the Saviour, Who alone made Heaven and Earth in six days (Ex 20:8-11; Is 44:24; 45:17-25), gave His UNLEAVENED Life Incarnate as the Messiah (“in Whom was no sin/chametz”) as “the TRUE BREAD from Heaven” for the life of the world (Jn 6:31-33; 1 Jn 3:3-5; 2 Cor 5:21), for our “obedience (to the faith) and sprinkling” by His Blood as “Christ our PASSOVER (Deliverer/Preserver)” to make a way for us to dwell in HIM and He in US, for preservation in the Messiah by being made the righteousness of God (Who reconciled us to Himself) in Y’shua the Messiah (Deut 5:15; Jn 6:51-53; 1 Cor 1:30; 5:7,8; 2 Cor 5:19,21; 1 Peter 1:2b; Jude vs 1).

When we tamper with either Shabbat or Passover or both, we “change the ordinance” and impair the Universe, not just the Earth (Is 24:3-6), because interference with the time-related ordinances has cosmic repercussions whenever Matt 6:10 is profaned, since these Appointments are kept in Heaven.

Heavenly bodies will not be falling to Earth by accident in the Tribulation. The effect of our iniquity reaches the furthest galaxies and constellations.

In the Deuteronomy re-statement of the Ten Commandments, we are commanded to keep Shabbat BECAUSE of the Passover and the Exodus (Deut 5:15). There’s no denying their symbiosis at the heart of Torah, in the grand scheme of things.

The Shabbat Portal to the Knowledge of the Mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven (Matt 12:8; 13:11)

The Shabbat Portal

SUMMARY: Trustworthily keeping SHABBAT is the quickest way to ‘join the dots’ of the everlasting covenant (Heb 13:20,21), to “fully know doctrine,” to discern our holy vocation and comprehend all it entails, to “stand PERFECT and COMPLETE in ALL the will of YHVH” for the Messiah to be fully formed in us by our being conformed to His Image (Is 56:6-8; Acts 20:25-32; Mk 2:27,28; Rom 8:29; 2 Eph 4:1; Col 1:28; 4:12; 2 Tim 3:10,14-17; Heb 4:1-11)

The celebrated author, the late Herman Wouk, described Shabbat beautifully as “the keystone of the arch of symbolism through which we enter each week” to sublime experiences of the Divine Presence.

It’s when we become aware of the sheer scale, weightiness, beauty and power of that holy symbolism, that we realize why we’re taught in Hebrews 2; 4 and 12 to fear “failing the grace” which we’ve been given (“grace for grace”) to be holy, especially by failing to fully enter into the Sabbatical Seventh Day rest in imitation of YHVH with His Messiah (Is 58:13; Matt 12:8).

Inimitable Shabbat of the Fourth Commandment is neither a “Jewish fable” nor an invention of manmade doctrine (Titus 1:14), whereas misappropriation of Sun day as a rival or parallel sabbath by men who “turned from the truth” to fashion a “commandment of men” by contradicting the ordinance of YHVH (Is 24:5), is undoubtedly a GENTILE fable.

No other precept in the everlasting covenant evokes wonder at the intelligent complex beauty of Creation, and awe of the wisdom, mercy and power of the Creator as Deliverer, more than Shabbat (Ex 20:8-11; Deut 5:15).

A footnote in the Hebrew Prayer Book, the Siddur, states: “Shabbat returns every seventh day (since Creation) INDEPENDENTLY of the Jewish people.”

That’s a profound disclaimer, because Israel knows that while Shabbat was given to them in trust at Sinai, as God’s witness nation as future stewards of the New Covenant (Is 43:1-11; 44:1-8; Jer 31:31-36; Lk 2:32), it is a Divine gift to humanity (Mk 2:27,28), with the greatest benefit to those who have declared faith in Y’shua the Messiah, and who prove their sincerity by having clean hands and pure hearts by walking in all the ways of YHVH, to remain forever inscribed for life (Ps 24; Matt 5:48; 28:20; 1 Jn 2:3-6,17,28,29).

Salvation is restoration of the ORIGINAL INNOCENCE of Adam when He was created, then made on the Sixth day (Thursday dusk to Friday dusk) to immediately enter into the Seventh Day (Friday dusk to Saturday dusk) Shabbat rest in fellowship with His Creator.

Shabbat is therefore our closest connection with the original relationship between God and His offspring in His pristine, primordial Creation (the “this is that” Day of Ex 16:23-30 of which manna staying fresh for days six and seven gave proof for forty years, and which Israel keeps to this day as our example), when the world was young, and man was as spotless as he would once again be six millennia later through the Sacrifice of God Himself Incarnate as the Messiah, and through obedience to New Covenant sanctification by the truth (Jn 17:17,19; Acts 20:32; 2 Thess 2:13,14; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Peter 2:13,14).

As we step into Shabbat at sunset on Fridays, it’s as if we step into Eden with faultless Adam.

After all, it is the memorial of the fact that YHVH Created the Universe in six days and that He Himself rested and was refreshed on the Seventh; as well as being a foretaste of the greater Eden to come on the New Earth, the coherence and perfection of which will depend on continuity of Shabbat, the fundamental determinant of Creation’s well-being (Is 66:22-24).

It’s no coincidence that the first Appointment Israel had with their God and ours, three days into the Exodus, after salvation-deliverance by faith in God through the sprinkled blood of the Passover, was the SHABBAT Feast, for which every Biblical Seventh Day is intended (Ex 5:1-3).

The initial three day trek to offer the sacrifice of sacrifices of thanksgiving in worship of YHVH at His FIRST Set Time (Gen 2:2,3), represents the SIGN of Jonah – Israel exiting Goshen (an ark of safety from plague) and escaping the darkness of  Pharoah’s kingdom to learn the Way of the LORD, to be the Sought-After righteous nation-in-the-making (Ex 19:5-8; Deut 4:5-8; Is 60-62).

This may be hard for the bulk of believers from the nations to receive, because of the lamentable ease with which, for generations, the “father of lies” has DEFRAUDED them of their Saviour’s Sabbath (Shabbat in Hebrew) through their voluntary bondage to doctrines and traditions of men (Is 29:13; Matt 12:8; 24:20), but anyone knowing the priceless comfort, edification and joy of Shabbat, who steps out of his or her comfort zone with a sense of urgency, to redirect those on the broad path, to the BIBLICAL Sabbath to repair a very longstanding and serious breach of covenant (Is 58:12-14; Rev 18:4,5), is wisely exercising the gift of ENCOURAGEMENT with the LORD’s unequivocal support.

Those who persistently and stubbornly RESIST such insightful, compassionate, experience- based correction will inevitably be amongst those described in Jer 16:19 who through their wilful ignorance may have delayed their seeing the light, perhaps too late to repent, by “failing (the) grace” available for the asking, to timeously work out their own salvation with fear and trembling (Phil 2:12,13; Heb 12:14,15,28).

On the other hand, those who in genuine ignorance (like Paul) have received mercy until now, and who are awakened to the righteousness and blessedness of Shabbat (repair of which provides asylum from the worst shakings – Is 58:12-14) and of other precepts they previously discounted, in order to walk at liberty, undefiled in the Way (Deut 28:9; Ps 119:1,45; 1 Cor 15:34), will be eternally grateful for YHVH’s patience and longsuffering towards them, which is for our repentance and obedience to the faith to be made complete, to be “offerings acceptable in word and deed” (Rom 1:5; 15:16-18; Col 4:12; 2 Peter 2:9-18; 1 Jn 1).

Since the evidence is conclusive that Paul’s “ways” (1 Cor 4:15-17) are in harmony with the Torah and the Prophets which he urged Timothy to continually study (Acts 24:14; 2 Tim 3:14-17), we can categorically state that the Apostolic definition of “another” (different) gospel is one that denies or that renounces, disowns and abandons the LORD’s Appointed Times (the “everlasting covenant’s” sanctified and blessed traditions of Shabbat and the Feasts) which are based on perpetual ordinances and commandments (1 Cor 7:19; 11:1,2; 15:1,2; 2 Thess 2:15), instead of “standing fast” and “HOLDING TO the (Biblically authorized) traditions” as they were “originally delivered to the saints,” WITHOUT ANY CHANGES (2 Thess 2:15; Jude vs 3).

Shabbat is the first time holiness (sanctification) is mentioned in Scripture (Gen 2:2,3), showing that like the Earth itself, even the ‘envelope’ of TIME within eternity past and eternity future within which we exist in the bubble of Creation, is holy, and that though invisible, it can be defiled just as easily as any other part or realm of Creation (Col 1:16).

Adam was sanctified by Shabbat until he and Eve defiled it by defiling themselves by failing to heed the  solemn instruction to observe the one fine distinction given to test their loyalty to YHVH in Eden (Gen 2:17).

To this day, Shabbat is the everlasting covenant sign of our call to sanctification by the commandments as “one new man” in the House of Jacob, the Household of YHVH (Ex 31:13,16; Ps 59:13;;Lk 1:33; 1 Cor 4:17; Eph 2:11,12,15,19; 1 Thess 4:1-3a).

Sun day provides no such inspired, mandatory facilitation of understanding of holiness, which explains the chequered history of righteousness in the conduct of the church, since the only thing WORSE than wilful ignorance of the plumbline of “righteousness and true holiness” (Eph 4:23,24) when doctrine is FULLY KNOWN through openness to the full counsel (2 Tim 3:10), is wilful ignorance of the IDENTITY of the Sabbath Day itself (Matt 12:8), which is “made for man” to absorb its unmatched holiness to more easily acquire virtue to lay hold on eternal life by learning the finer brushstrokes of discernment of holiness by study of the wise instruction in the Torah and the Prophets (Acts 24:14; 2 Tim 3:14-17), to attain perfection of character through mastery of our souls in the most efficient manner (Mk 2:27,28; Lk 21:19; Rom 8:4,29; 2 Tim 2:5).

For this principal reason, the Genesis Sabbath which is as UNIQUE and INDESTRUCTIBLE as the One and Only God and Saviour Who conceived of it before the foundation of the Earth (Deut 6:4; Is 45:21; Matt 5:17-19; Mk 12:29), was not created to EVER coincide with the WEEKDAY on which God the Son would be resurrected, any more than 7 can equal 1.

This was to ensure that the ecstasy of the Resurrection (which if allowed too much play RELATIVE to the Atonement that made it possible, can detract from the sobering purpose of salvation, which is to refine chaste virgins at any cost) would NEVER overshadow contemplation of the solemnity and astonishing mercy of the Atoning Ransom Sacrifice of the Living God as “the Messiah our Passover” slain before Creation (Deut 5:15; 1 Cor 5:7,8; Rev 13:8).

To ensure that our sacrifices of thanksgiving and praise never wane, our attention is to be continually focussed through the Gospel on the grace of our reconciliation to God in the Messiah through the Blood of His Crucifixion as propitiation for our sins (2 Cor 5:19-21), confirmed by the grace of adoption by our baptism into Y’shua’s death for the remission of our sins (Rom 6:1-6), for our sanctification by the Spirit through obedience to the truth, to “win Christ” by working out our own salvation with fear and trembling (Jn 17:17,19; Acts 20:25-32; 26:18,20; Phil 2:12,13; 3:10-16; 2 Thess 2:13,14; 1 Peter 1:2b), because this emphasis is the model maintained and presented to us throughout Scriptures (1 Cor 2:2), notwithstanding the importance of our confession of belief in the Resurrection, in clinching our JUSTIFICATION by faith (Rom 4:25; 10:9b).

This makes the COVENANT of the Shabbat commandment (Ex 13:16; Is 56:6; 58:13,14), not uncovenanted Sun day, the perfect fit with “the Communion of the Blood and the Body of the Messiah” (1 Cor 7:19; 10:16).

An idol has been made of Sun day, which the population of slaves, Roman peasants and Imperial citizens other than nobility could never have been free to rest on, were it not for Constantine’s presumptuous alteration of the Genesis cycle of sevens, to impose the Babylonian economic pattern of days 2-7 (Monday to Saturday) in place of the blessed cycle of YHVH’s blueprint of days 1-6 (Sunday to Friday).

Since the calendar day determined by Hebrew dating of the Resurrection (during the Passover week) and of Shavuo’t (Pentecost) shifts annually according to the movement of the Biblical luni-solar calendar, Sun day does not occupy a FIXED position in the “everlasting covenant” which it has on the Gregorian calendar which Rome insisted it should have in perpetuity, in accordance with pagan formulae, in defiance of what is written.

We would do well to remember that it is “he who (by accepting correction, in the fear of God) fears the commandment” of God rather than “the doctrine and commandments of men,” shall be rewarded (Prov 13:13; 15:16; Is 29:13; Col 2:8,22).

Sun day is forever the first working day of the week in “the everlasting covenant” which Rome disrupted in 321AD when it arrogantly and vainly practiced a coup ď êtat on Shabbat, thinking to depose it by Hellenizing the Hebrew Gospel of the New Covenant of the House of Judah and the House of Israel, to set Papal Caesars above God in a Latin Imperium that denies the primacy, in the Messiah, of the eternal House of Jacob (Lk 1:33; Heb 4:1-11; 13:20,21; Matt 19:28; Eph 2:11,12,19; Rev 21:12)

Every reputable dictionary confirms from antiquity, as wisdom for posterity, that Saturday (actually, Friday dusk to Saturday dusk according to Genesis) is the Memorial SEVENTH day of the week of the Fourth Commandment, leaving as the only possible inference, that by close of business on Monday (the second day of the week), we ought all to have completed two of the six BIBLICAL working days in anticipation of the following Sabbath

We can compare Shabbat to a PORTAL and/or to a THRESHOLD.

A Portal to mysteries, Shabbat is a fathomless fountain of wisdom. Vast emphasis is placed on it in Hebrew literature, so we ought to pay attention, so we don’t forfeit the incomparable benefits of this great gift, this cornerstone of covenant ordinances given in YHVH’s mercy (Is 56:6; Matt 12:8; 1 Cor 11:1,2); the one-and-only Sabbath, the irrevocable Holy custom kept by Y’shua-Jesus and Paul as our Apostolic example (1 Cor 4:17), but which the apostate church refused to grant continuity, because it was not THEIR custom, despite the fact that YHVH decreed HIS Shabbat as an everlasting jewel in HIS ordering and arrangement of time (Acts 16:21).

We depart from our beautiful and costly sapphire foundations at our peril (Is 54:11; Matt 7:13-27). At the very least, the four Levitical table fellowship regulations (Acts 15:19-21) and ALL TEN commandments from which the four are derived, are to be written on our hearts, because they were given AS ONE, “in commandment” (Ex 34:27,28,32; Heb 10:16; James 1:22-25; 2:6-26)

As the day on which our LORD so monumentally showcased His Father’s mercy and grace, there is no other day in Creation that consistently offers delight and contentment and such potential for abundant fruit of righteousness, all wrapped up in the unique sanctity of greatly magnified intensity of God’s Presence, in the rare experience of a foretaste, on Shabbat, of the shalom-shalom of the millennial Kingdom.

Shabbat is also to Y’shua-Jesus, what a THRESHOLD is to a DOOR.

In Him, you cross the threshold going out, to “find (good) pasture” (Jn 10:9). Shabbat is the first pillar of wisdom. The first of His ways. Shabbat is therefore the logical starting point of a faithful walk and a continuous test of loyalty to YHVH and His Kingdom. It ought to be the first of our “first works” of righteousness (Acts 10:35; Rev 2:5) as proof of being properly grafted in to the good natural olive tree. Our first imitation of God Himself (Gen 2:2,3; Rom 11; Eph 5:1; Heb 4) and therefore our principal weekly Appointment for undivided intimacy with the God of Jacob as adopted sons, as Hebrew seed of Abraham (Lk 1:33; Rom 11; Eph 2:11,12,19; Gal 3:29)

When He said “I am the Door,” He was reminding us that He is LORD (Master) even of His Father’s SEVENTH Day Sabbath (Matt 12:8), the AUTHENTIC Fourth Commandment of His marriage covenant of Ten Words between the Son and His bride, by which we enter into the covenant by walking after righteousness to be righteous by keeping the narrow Way of Holiness to lay hold on eternal life (Ex 20:8-11; 31:13,16; Matt 5:19; 7:13-27; 1 Cor 7:19; 1 Tim 6:11-14; 1 Jn 2:3-6; 3:3-10; 2 Jn vs 6).

Shabbat is irreplaceable and irremoveable.

As the Messiah’s Shabbat (“ALL things having been delivered” to Y’shua Who has been sealed by and Who has the imprimatur of His Father to demand adherence to His Father’s will – Matt 11:27; 12:50; Jn 6:27), Shabbat is the hallmark of “the one faith” of the AUTHENTIC one, holy, universal (common Hebrew New Covenant salvation – Eph 2:11,12; 4:5,6; Titus 1:4; Jude vs 3) Apostolic kahal/ekklesia/’church’/ congregations of the eternal House of Jacob the firstborn, it’s roots in “Abram the Hebrew’s” household (Gen 14:13; 18:18,19; Ps 68:26; Is 51:1-7; Lk 1:33; Acts 7:38 KJV; Heb 12:23; Rev 21:12) and even further back through Shem and Noah to Enoch, Seth and Enos when men first called upon the Name of the LORD (Gen 4:25,26).

As the chief covenantal sign of UNITY between Jew and Gentile in joint-membership of the commonwealth of Israel, Shabbat is the amalgam, the holy glue of “the one new (Hebrew) man” of which Gentile Caleb (who became a Hebrew and a Jew) and Joshua; and Gentile Ruth and Israelite Naomi and Ruth’s kinsman-redeemer Boaz, are a foreshadowing (Ex 31:13,16; Eph 2:11,12,15; 3:6; Gal 3:29).

As such, Shabbat is a declaration to Principalities and Powers of the wisdom of the God of the Hebrews in creating the Universe for the eternal House of Jacob as His witness nation – “the same body” and “one fold” to which Gentiles are joined by the grace of adoption (surnaming by the God of Jacob) through baptism, to cleave to the Jew and to his God. THIS is the “fellowship” of “the Mystery of the Messiah” (Ex 19:5-8; Is 14:1; 44:1-8; 45:4; 54:3; 55:5; Zech 2:10-12; 8:21-23; Lk 1:33; Jn 10:16; Acts 7:38; Rom 11; Eph 3:1-11).

When Jew and Gentile recognize the beauty of the holiness and efficacy of the BIBLICAL tradition in their joint-heritage, and families separate themselves fully from the secular realm to draw together at dusk on Friday to sanctify the Sabbath with intent to keep it intact till Saturday dusk as God Himself did in the Beginning (Gen 2:2,3; Is 58:13,14), more damage is done to the kingdom of darkness than is imaginable.

It is this synchronization of our “conversation” (entire way of life) with the BrideGroom’s 24 hr Shabbat Appointment with His bride-elect, passionately giving Him our undivided attention, that is arguably the most POTENT act of submission to sanctification in all the covenant, and a seal upon the promise of eternal inheritance (Ps 50:23; 2 Thess 2:13-15; Heb 4:1,4-6,9-11; 5:9; 10:36).

A decision in favour of Shabbat is singularly the finest choice one can make in life, except of course for a decision to accept the gift of “everlasting salvation” (Is 45:17-25; 56:6).

Why? Because no other precept can ground the true worshipper the way Shabbat does, because of its peerless rôle in navigating us to full assurance of hope of the redemption of our bodies on the narrow path, through obedience to righteousness (Jn 5:27-29; Rom 2:6-13; 6:12-22; Heb 5:9; 6:11,12; 10:36).

This cannot be understood by anyone who is unwilling to turn from the counterfeit to commit fully to observe Shabbat, to be a fully consecrated, true son (Ps 50:5; Rom 12:1,2).

We pray the “Our Father, Who art in Heaven, HALLOWED be Thy Name…THY will be done on Earth AS IT IS IN HEAVEN…” as HYPOCRITES if we are amongst those who ignorantly and rashly dispute and ridicule the validity of the Seventh Day as the permanent SHABBAT (Is 66:22-24), as Jerusalem’s adversaries did in Lamentations 1:7 when denigrating her status as Princess of the Provinces (Hebrew capital of the world).

According to Jer 17 and Rev 19, the victorious “Master of Shabbat” cannot re-enter His City on His white stallion after vanquishing His and Israel’s enemies at ‘Armageddon’ (Har Megiddo), to ascend the Throne of David to reign over the House of Jacob forever, unless Messianic Jews who are required to recall him with their pleas and worship (Matt 5:35; 23:39; Mk 2:27,28; Acts 3; 11:10; Lk 1:32,32), are vindicating and safeguarding the truth by worshipping Him on Shabbat, keeping it Holy from start to finish.

Shabbat cannot be replicated on “the first day of the week.” It is the LORD’s fundamental safeguard against idolatry of all kinds, and all iniquity. It is given to us as our prime lesson in being holy, by sharpening discernment needed to observe the well-defined boundaries of the covenant. Shabbat teaches us the Fear of God. Therefore it is the cardinal principle of covenant-keeping as our chief tutorial in waiting on the LORD.

The dissolution of Sun day (which has no designation in the covenant as a weekly holy convocation) proves that it was never blessed as the fit-for-purpose true Sabbath. The Seventh Day’s breathtakingly broad promise to those who keep IT Holy, is non-transferable. It is a perpetual covenant in its own right (Ex 31:13,16; s 56:6-8 58:13,14; 66:22-24). It marks us as sons set apart amongst remnant Israel as heirs of the world (Rom 4:13,16; 11:17-29).

Shabbat is an indelible mark in time, when, for those conscientiously honouring these twenty four hours as the blessed INTERMISSION and bridge between working weeks, time mercifully seems to stand still, creating an oasis of tranquility as the Seventh Day testifies to the One and Only God, the God of Israel, the God of the great Proclamation known as the ‘Shema’ (“Hear O Israel, the LORD thy God, the LORD [YHVH] is One”) (Mk 12:28-33), being the sole Author of Life and Architect and Builder of the worlds (Is 43:10,11; 44:24; 45:21,22).

It shouldn’t surprise us that this inconvenient truth about the Uniqueness of Holy Hebrew Monotheism, which highlights Israel’s election as “chief of nations” as legal successor to all the territory of the kingdoms of Canaan (Deut 12:28-32; Ps 105:8-11; Jer 31:7,10,17,31-36; Rom 15:8) has made Shabbat the Adversary’s most fiercely resisted precept.

Though try as he may, no peremptory Imperial human scheme or defiant, contentious cohort of presumptuous paganized priests trying to usurp the primacy of the House of Jacob (Lk 1:33; Rev 21:12) can walk back the revelation knowledge embedded in Scripture, by trying to reverse the Finger of God which made the Ten Commandments the fundamental laws of righteous civilization, forever (Ps 103:17,18; Eccl 12:13; Matt 5:19; Rev 12:17; 14:12).

The ‘Christian sabbath’ imputed to Sun day by “wresting” (torturing) the Scriptures (2 Peter 3:16-18), CANNOT PREVAIL against “the Holy (Shabbat) of YHVH” (Is 58:13) that presides over the week, crowned as a Sentinel of Divine order, bringing those who delight in it the coherence to their understanding of the full counsel which is unattainable by those who MEDDLE with the commandments.

The ULTIMATUM to repent (Acts 17:30) and do righteousness to seek true holiness (Acts 10:35; Rom 6:12-22; Eph 4:23,24) includes an ultimatum to flee false doctrine which has made misrepresentation of Sun day as the Sabbath, its lynchpin (Rev 18:4,5).

If we deny and reject the Fourth Commandment by not practising what is written (namely, the SEVENTH day), we will not be found grafted WITHIN the eternal dynasty (b’toch shoshelet) of Abraham and David whose calling and purpose-in-election (to which we are joined) is to uphold “the Way of the LORD” to be the “called, chosen and FAITHFUL” (Gen 18:18,19: 26:5; Is 14:1; Lk 1:32,33; Acts 24:14; Rev 3:10; 14:12; 17:14).

Shabbat, the seal of God’s partnership with redeemed man in the rule and restoration of Creation (Gen 1:26), sanctifies TIME, just as the TITHE sanctifies material resources.

God does not change.

HIS cycles of sevens BEGAN on what we today call Sun day. ‘Sun day’ (day the first, Yom Rishon) was the first day of Creation. Each cycle in perpetuity is completed on Shabbat, day the Seventh which HE sanctified and blessed, forever.

Sun day is not endowed with the grace to sanctify time.

Sun day is the RESUMPTION each week of the Sabbatical Economy (or) Economy of the blessed Sabbath of Zion (Kalkalat ha Shabbat ha Mechubedet Tsion :
כלכלה השבת המוכבדת צ) as Israel demonstrates even today, with phenomenal success.

Shabbat comprises the ‘bookends’ of the blessed working week.

ALL the prosperity promises including Deut 18:8 Prov 10:22 and 3 Jn 2 are premised on observing the days blessed for work, BY KEEPING SHABBAT HOLY.

So since all promises are Israel’s for the world to partake of (Rom 15:8,27); and since Zion is heir of the world (Rom 4:13,16), UNIFICATION of the world behind the Sabbatical economy of Zion will enable the nations to slipstream in the blessing of the double-portion of Israel’s endowment of grace (Is 62; Zech 9; Rom 11:25-29), to potentially raise the tone (virtue) and level of excellence in wealth creation (Deut 8:18) to the pinnacle envisaged by the promises to the fathers, to repair the world and improve the universe to the glory of the God of all accomplishment.

Shabbat – if piously observed, becomes righteous leaven for the global economy. Will affect the entire world. A restrainer of unrighteousness.

On the other hand, the Babylonian Catholic and Protestant economy functions from Monday to Saturday.

Only the original Messianic faith, true to the Apostles, uncompromisingly adheres to the pattern for holiness.

Whose time you keep matters, because it reflects whom you serve – God or man.

Soon, Sun day will therefore again be the first day of the six days specified for all mankind to work (Deut 8:18), by honouring Shabbat as a total commercial ban, to establish the covenant (Prov 10:22; Is 66:22-24; Mk 2:27,28).

Sun day cannot “establish the covenant.”

It is not ‘our (weekly) Resurrection Day.’ Only the Feast of Firstfruits which completes the sign of Jonah within the Passover Feast of Unleavened Bread (Lk 22:1,16-18; 1 Cor 5:7,8), has that honour in the everlasting covenant.

A soul-tie has developed with Sun day, at the expense of Shabbat. It must be cut, or we cannot “come out of her (the Mother of harlots), My people…” (Rev 18:4,5).

The lie and sin which constitute the vain attempt by mere men to “change the ordinance” to justify a different sabbath, a false tradition (Is 24:5; 2 Thess 2:15), will be found out. Creation has suffered incalculably due to this breach of fundamental ruletaking (Is 24:3-6).

As the TIME-SENSITIVE Prologue to the Testimonies of the seven Holy Convocations (time-sensitive because the Fourth Commandment stipulates the seventh, not the first day of the week), our weekly Shabbat Summit as joint-heirs with Messiah the King (Mk 2:27,28; Rom 8:17) is the spiritual PORTAL to the deepest realms of discernment of the meaning of “the everlasting covenant” (Ps 25:10,14; 42:2,4; Is 56:6; Heb 13:20,21).

The perpetual Shabbat covenant (our heritage) which confirms our ingrafting in Jacob in Messiah (Gen 28:14; Lk 1:33; Rom 11:17-29) by signing-off on our adoption by the firstborn nation (Ex 4:22;23; 31:31,16; Ps 119:111; Is 14:1; 54:3; 55:5; Eph 2:11,12,15,19; 3:6; Heb 12:23) is the ‘threshold test’ of the Fear of YHVH (because it is the first of His WAYS which we are to imitate as the first of our WORKS – Gen 2:2,3; Acts 10:35; Heb 4:1,4,6,9-11; Rev 2:5,26).

Shabbat is the HEAD of the NARROW path of HOLINESS which is the covenant we are to “enter” into (Deut 29:9,12-15; Is 34:8) immediately after justification by faith: Shabbat is the first sanctified, appointed step of “the obedience of faith” (Rom 16:26) that establishes the righteous pattern for presenting ourselves to YHVH (Ps 42:2,4), which leads to completed redemption (Rom 2:6-11,13; 6:12-22; 8:4,23) and full assurance of attainment of the crown of righteousness for appropriation of eternal life on the path of life (Matt 19:17-26; 1 Tim 6:11-14; 2 Tim 2:5; 4:3-8; Heb 5:9-14; 6:1-11;10:36; 1 Jn 2:3-6,17,28,29; 3:7-10).

So the question is…

Are you wearing the Messiah’s virtual engagement ring?

Are you attending the appointed weekly wedding rehearsal for the seventh millennium’s Sabbatical kingdom, or are you going with the crowd, PRESUMING that calling the humanly re-purposed “first day of the week” the sabbath, will be honoured by the Master of the Shabbat of the Ten Commandments? (Matt 5:19; 12:8)

Are you visible in the spirit realm by bearing the chief identifying mark of commitment to the relationship with God as a joint-heir with the Messiah, in His House? (Ps 59:13; Lk 1:33).

Are you resting in Him, with Him, on His rest Day, for Him to fulfil its promises to you? (Is 58:14)

There is no GALACTIC portal that can come close to touching the power innate in Shabbat, by the Spirit, to strengthen, refresh and restore us while translating us into the mind of Messiah to penetrate the secrets of wisdom (Job 11:6; Deut 29:29; Matt 13:11-16; 1 Cor 2:9-16) of which we are called to be faithful stewards (1 Cor 4:1).

What a gift!

It’s the greatest proof that obedience to Y’shua’s yoke is indeed “easy” (Matt 11:29,30; Heb 5:9) if, by faith, you “labour to enter” into the fulness of the covenant of Shabbat (Ex 31:13,16; 2 Cor 5:9-11; Heb 4:9-11) by ignoring satan’s propaganda war against the commandment, to resist his tireless efforts to deter you, to disqualify you from its great grace (2 Thess 2:15)

HalleluYaH

It was through Moses and Y’shua-Jesus more than any others, that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob “remembered His covenant with Abraham,” the Friend of God (Ex 2:24,25; Lk 1:54,54,68-79).

Moses WAS adopted by Pharaoh’s daughter (Ex 2:10), but in his heart remained a Levite, an Israelite, and as a seed of Abraham, perceived that he had a great destiny (Heb 11:24-26).

He was “drawn out of water” to be named the ‘one drawn from water’ (Ex 2:10) to water his people with the wisdom from above that would make them pre-eminently sought-after (Deut 4:5-8; Is 2:2-4; 60-63; Micah 4:1-8; 7:8-20), to prepare a people worthy to be called the “peculiar treasure” of the Most High (Ex 19:5-8; Mal 3:16-18), by being led from behind by the Shepherd of Israel (1 Cor 10:4; Is 30:21 ) “as seeing Him Who is invisible” (Heb 11:27).

The Holy Spirit of YHVH Who was put “within him” (Moses) to accomplish His forty years of ministry, thereby ordered his steps under instruction by His Shepherd, YHVH’s “Glorious Arm,” as a precursor to New Covenant baptism in the Spirit (Is 63:1-14).

As the humble servant of the LORD on which the Messiah is modelled (Deut 18:18; Acts 3:22 – “like unto thee”), Moses ‘bore his own cross’ with more than his fair share of suffering for the Messiah, even being willing to die to atone for Israel’s pervasive insolence, insubordination, rebellion and contempt for YHVH’s counsel, to save the Exodus project, to bring His difficult people to their Jordan, to cross over from death to life (Ex 2:11-15; Is 63:10  Heb 11:24-29).

Even though Aaron became Moses’ mouthpiece, Moses as RECEIVER and CONDUIT of God’s Voice and Torah of truth could just as easily have said what His Messiah said before Pilot: “To THIS end was I born, and for THIS cause came I into the world, that I should bear WITNESS to the TRUTH. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice” (Ex 4:12,15,16; 7:1; Deut 32:1-4; Jn 5:46; 18:37).

The Torah has a remarkable way of connecting NARRATIVE threads as well as threads of DOCTRINE (to maintain hermeneutical/interpretive continuity) and PROPHECY, to BE the plumb line, for detection of sly error and for sharpening our discernment to recognize and wisely apply vital covenant truths.

Another example of narrative threads thrown into sharp relief by treating the entire Bible as indivisible:

“And YHVH said to Moses in MIDIAN: ‘Go, return into EGYPT: for ALL THE MEN ARE DEAD WHO SOUGHT THY (Moses as type of Messiah) LIFE…” (Ex 4:19,20)

“But when Herod was dead, behold, an Angel of the LORD appeared to Joseph in a dream in EGYPT, saying, ‘Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the Land of ISRAEL: for THEY ARE DEAD WHO SOUGHT THE YOUNG CHILD’S (Y’shua the Messiah’s) LIFE” (Matt 2:19,20)

It also has a way of ‘piloting’ us to aspects of the New Testament that could do with closer examination in both narrower and broader contexts, in order to extract all that has been hidden for us, in them.

To illustrate, this Portion rather unexpectedly leads us to consideration of Governor Pontius Pilot’s traumatic deliberations over the Jews’ allegations of Messiah’s guilt as a supposedly blasphemous imposter (Matt 26:59-66) not by going off at a tangent from Ex 1:1 – 6:1, but by sensitively following the detail in themes which these chapters highlight within the context of the unfolding plot of the plan of eternal redemption in which MOSES plays a surprisingly important rôle.

Details like Y’shua at first refusing to dignify their incredulity, by withholding comment on the report of two witnesses who had heard Him say it was within His power to destroy and rebuild the Temple of YHVH (physical and/or spiritual) in three days, which takes on fresh meaning in light of his description then and there, of His Resurrection, to be found “sitting at the Right Hand of the Power and coming in the clouds of Heaven” as proof that He is the Son of God; and seeing as Moses, who would ACCUSE THEM of denying Him, would himself be born again (Matt 26:60-66; Jn 5:40-47).

After holding His peace, Y’shua was forthcoming, and was magnified by His Father when the chief priests invoked YHVH to “adjure thee by the Living God that thou tell us whether thou be the Messiah, the Son of God” (Matt 26:63).

The Jews sudden appeal to Caesar to rid themselves of ‘competition’ for their egos (Matt 27:18; Jn 19:15), was not only disingenuous, but Pilot rightly regarded Roman law as NOT COMPETENT to test and judge matters of Torah (Jn 18:31) and besides, he was not trained in subtleties of Divine Jurisprudence to distinguish between the Biblical precepts and edicts of God associated with the “SEAT of MOSES,” and the contrived rules of doctrines of men which had led to rabbinical presumption such as their earlier conclusion that Y’shua had broken Shabbat (Jn 5:18) – so he unhesitatingly responded to their allegation that Y’shua was a “malefactor,” with, “Take him (Y’shua) and judge him according to YOUR law” (Jn 18:31).

Amazingly, the mystery of Y’shua’s Sacrifice (Jn 10:18) is that He was neither sentenced under Roman law nor Jewish law (Jn 18:31).

Neither HUMAN system made His Atonement INEVITABLE.

God’s RIGHTEOUSNESS demanded the shedding of Blood for the remission of sins.

Mankind bears no guilt for His death, even though sin, for which we were absolved of guilt, precipitated it.

God’s LOVE sent Him to the Cross to show mercy to sinners, the Just dying for the unjust, by free will (Jn 3:16).

Clearly, He VOLUNTEERED Himself (Matt 26:52-54)

That’s what’s so wonderful.

Pilot’s verdict was seemingly off the record, not EX OFFICIO.

His line of questioning of Y’shua was more like an interview or seminar Q&A than an interrogation under due process of law.

It was almost conversational.

Pilot was extraordinarily ENGAGED in the sparse dialogue.

The impression we are left with is that He was asking questions more for HIMSELF than to conduct a formal hearing

Pilot: “What is truth?” (Jn 19:38).

He genuinely wanted to know who “that just man” really was (Matt 27:19).

We can almost feel the intensity of the encounter.

Perhaps he had a sense, from Y’shua’s profound statements (Jn 19:36,37), that the meaning of life was standing before him.

The fact is, neither Rome nor Jerusalem was Y’shua’s executioner.

Neither was Herod any more inclined to judge and condemn Y’shua, the Nazarene Galilean under his jurisdiction, than Pilot, who had considered the accusations false and now reported back to the chief priests – “No, nor yet Herod: for I sent (Y’shua) to him and lo (consider his finding that), nothing (worthy) of death has been done by Him” (Lk 23:4-11,14-16).

Our Saviour did what was necessary, OFFERING Himself without compulsion.

He CHOSE His own death (Jn 3:14; 8:28; 12:32).

The Jews’ violating Torah to invoke the curse of innocent Blood upon themselves and their children by demanding (under threat of tumult) the death of a JUST man, Y’shua-Jesus, to fulfil a HUMAN tradition at Passover (hence no Fear of God) (Is 29:13; Matt 27:15-17,25), hardly made it easier for Pilot to literally wash his hands of the matter to declare HIS verdict of Y’shua’s innocence (which flew in the face of theirs), because he knew “that for ENVY they had delivered Him” and that he was facing incitement to revolt, by hypocrites (Matt 27:18,19,24).

Of course, by what reasoning, despite his personal conviction of Y’shua’s innocence, Pilot finally yielded, to grant the noisy throng the Crucifixion which THEIR law would not allow (“It is not lawful for US to put ANY man to death” – Jn 18:31), is one of history’s greatest brain-teasers.

Whichever way one looks at it, though, it’s hard to believe that on the Last Day, with rôles reversed and Pilot standing before “the King of the Jews’ ” Judgment Seat (2 Cor 5:9-11), that he would warrant eternal damnation amongst those who as part of Y’shua’s pre-Passover ‘inspection’ and judgment, were of necessity at least partly veiled, to be part of doing what was NECESSARY for the will of YHVH to be done, which on that exact Passover, was to sacrifice “the Messiah their Passover,” Whom MOSES endorsed but which most of Israel has “disallowed,” as builders rejecting the precious Cornerstone (Ps 118:22; Is 28:16-19; Matt 21:33-46).

After all, the record is clear, that “had the PRINCES of this world known” and believed the truth, which had long been “hidden wisdom,” “they would NOT have crucified the LORD of Glory,” and where would that have left the prophecy? (Deut 18:18,19; Lk 23:33,34; Jn 3:16; 1 Cor 2:8).

How does this tie back to Ex 1-6?

On a long view, the events that sent Y’shua to His APPOINTED death, are an EXTRAPOLATION of the seed concept that Israel is YHVH’s son, His FIRSTBORN (Ex 4:22,23), to be redeemed by His own death AS the only Begotten Son, as Firstborn from amongst those who sleep, to fulfil the promise and purpose of the Exodus which is to “take you to Me for a people…” FOREVER (Ex 6:7).

The longing of the Jewish people for what they call the ‘resuscitation’ of the dead, simply cannot be realized without the Holy Spirit being allowed to knit the full counsel of Scripture together in their hearts, line by line and precept by precept (Is 28:9-13; Matt 5:19; Heb 10:16), to see how the Song of Moses corresponds to the Song of the Lamb (Rev 15:3,4), to see how their icon, Moses, and HIS Messiah, sing ‘the same tune’ ! (Jn 5:45-47).

To give a sense of the scale of its importance, the TORAH (which includes the seven pillars of wisdom and contains the roots of “the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven” referred to in Matt 13) is to ALL Scripture, what JERUSALEM (the ‘navel of the Earth,’ the resting place of the Name) is to the UNIVERSE.

This is what 2 Tim 3:14-17 is alluding to and impressing upon us. We are not to focus on the New Testament IF, by doing so, we leave the Hebrew Scriptures (and the Torah in particular) behind, any more than we are given permission to withhold the tithe while learning to practise the “weightier matters” of “judgment, mercy and faith” (Matt 5:19; 23:23).

Going back to righteous Abraham, Torah (which means Instruction) which was codified later, forever remains the matrix of the foundation principles of “the Way of YHVH” (Gen 18:18,19; 26:5) because neither the first Five Books (the ‘Pentateuch’) nor the Prophets can be abolished without undoing the very act of  Creation and nullifying the “restitution of all things” necessary to perfect the restoration of Creation in “the regeneration,” when the Apostles will rule the Twelve Tribes under the Messiah as King of the Jews on David’s Throne (Matt 5:17-19; 19:28; Lk 1:32,33; Acts 3:21; 24:14).

In this Portion, which foreshadows the NATIVITY (discovery of the Deliverer) and the New Covenant’s PREPARATION of a HOLY REMNANT of Israel to reign as chief of nations with their Messiah with unchallenged dominion over all the territory blood-covenanted to Abraham (Gen 15:7-23; Jer 31:7,10,17,31-36; Amos 9:11-15; Micah 4:1-8; 7:8-20; Zech 9-14; Acts 15:14-17), we have an example, in these opening chapters of the profound biography of Moses which we could call “from CRADLE (Ex 2:2-5) to INHERITANCE (Ex 6:1-8),” of Torah’s priceless help in understanding the mind of the Messiah.

This is so because Moses actually SAW, MET and HELPED prepare Y’shua (his Master, “Mighty God” and “Eternal Father,” “the Saviour” – Is 9:6,7; 45:21,22) on the Mt of Transfiguration, to BE the TESTATOR Who needed to die as a “corn of wheat” (Jn 12:23,24), Incarnate as the “Seed (singular) of Abraham,” to “confirm” the inheritance to Abraham, for posterity (Gen 17:8; Ex 6:8; Is 9:6,7; Lk.9:28-3; Rom 15:8; Gal 3:16; Heb 9:16,17).

John 1:17, one of the great pillars of truth given to aid our understanding of the HOLY SYNERGY between grace and law in the process of our SANCTIFICATION by faith (Jn 17:17,19; Acts 20:32; 1 Thess 5:23; 2 Thess 2:13-15), describes the PARALLEL between the two great SPANS of Scripture which run from EXODUS to DEUTERONOMY (i.e. from Moses found in a slime and pitch-sealed ark (basket) of bullrushes in the Nile, to his citation as “king in Yeshurun” in Deut 33:5 in recognition of his exemplary servant-leadership as ruler (king) of Israel, YHVH’s firstborn nation); and then from MATTHEW – REVELATION (from Immanu El as the God-infant found in the manger, born King of the Jews, to restoration of the Monarchy to Jerusalem for Theocracy to be the ultimate form of world government under Y’shua’s succession to David’s Throne after Armageddon – Is 9:6,7; Zech 14; Mk 11:10; Rev 19, the penultimate battle for ownership of Jerusalem; Gog and Magog being the last, in Rev 21).

Ex 1:1 – 6:8 is Exodus-Deuteronomy in a nutshell.

WITHIN those two great cycles we receive our HERITAGE of Divine Instruction (Torah) through Moses – Deut 33:4; while through Y’shua, we receive the “grace and truth” to learn how to be freely cleansed, justified and acquitted of Torahlessness (unrighteousness) and absolved from the guilt of that sin (1 Jn 3:4); and how to overcome the power of sin to become true sons of God, by following after the righteousness of Torah “filled to the full” (as amplified by Y’shua in Matt 5), by walking after the Spirit in the footsteps of the obedience of the Messiah (Matt 5:17-19,48; 28:20; Jn 1:12/Heb 12; Rom 3:20,31; 7:22,25-8:4,14; 1 Tim 6:11-14; 1 Jn 2:3-6), to be made perfect in the PRACTICE of righteousness, to be “AS our Master” (Matt 5:19,48; 12:59; 28:50; Lk 6:40; 16:17; Acts 10:35; Col 1:28; 4:12; 2 Thess 2:17).

Those two great sequential cycles are

1) the pre-Messianic phase through Moses as primary type of Messiah,

2) the other triumphantly Messianic under Y’shua-Jesus as Ruler (King) of the House of Jacob forever

TOGETHER they build on the embryonic origins of the church in GENESIS through the earliest God-seekers such as Seth and Enos and Enoch after the debacle in the Garden (Gen 4:25,26; 5:24) then through heirs of the righteousness which is by faith, such as Noah and Shem, after the rescue of a tiny remnant of humanity from the Inundation (Gen 6:8-10; 9:26,27); and finally, through the call of Abram to be a Hebrew, to BE the eternal household of YHVH (Gen 14:13; 18:18,19; Is 51:1-7; Lk 1:33; Rom 11; Eph 2:11,12; Gal 3:29), and the Holy Spirit directing Israel throughout its Exodus AS “the church (kahal/ekklesia)” (Is 51:1-7; 63:9-14; Acts 7:38; Lk 1:33) with the Messiah their “spiritual Rock from Whom they drank,” “following” them (1 Cor 10:4).

Ex 1:1-6:8 is a preliminary synopsis of the life of Moses the Levite, who was hidden for three months from the savage judgment of Pharoah on newborn Hebrew males (Ex 1:16,17; 2:2,3 – just as Y’shua was later hidden in Egypt after fleeing insecure Herod’s executioners – Matt 2:12-23), then consecrated through his mother’s Instruction as basic foundation to his later commissioning at a burning bush below Sinai to bring Israel out of bondage as a great nation (Ex 2:7-10; 3:1-10; Deut 6:23; 26:5), to teach them YHVH’s ways and manners, to groom them for possession of their inheritance through his commissioning of Joshua (also a type of Y’shua – Deut 34:9).

We aren’t told at what age Moses was adopted by Pharaoh’s daughter (“And the child GREW, and she – Moses’ mother who was paid to rear him – BROUGHT him to Pharaoh’s daughter and he BECAME her son” – Ex 2:7-10), but it is not unreasonable to assume that his identity as a HEBREW was at least partly settled in his very young mind before leaving his Levitical parents’ household (which he must surely have later visited), to be fanned into action at the time appointed to become his people’s deliverer after he’d been raised as a prince in Egypt (Ex 2:11-15; Heb 11:23-29)

The very life of Y’shua about Whom Moses WROTE and Who endorsed Moses (Deut 18:18,19; Jn 5:45-47; Acts 3:22-26), from its richly prophetic beginnings in Beit Lechem (“little” Bethlehem, the House of Bread) in the stone manger prepared for Y’shua as “the Star of Jacob” and “Shepherd and STONE of Israel” (Gen 49:24; Nu 24:17; Micah 5:2), to His Atonement to “save His People from their sins” and His Resurrection for their justification as “the sure mercies of David” (Acts 13:32-39); and His forthcoming Return in glory to fight for Zion, to receive His Messianic Kingdom and be Enthroned as Son of David as embodiment of the New Covenant, “a Covenant of the people” (Is 49:5-8), is the seal of Israel’s inheritance and of their marriage to their Land, forever (Ps 105:8-11; Deut 33:26-29; Is 62:4; Rom 15:8).

Pilate’s evidently remorseful, reluctant surrender of Y’shua to the brazen insolence of Jewish demands for His Crucifixion (Jn 18:29-31; 19:12) WAS the grace described by Isaiah as “the SURE MERCIES of David” (Is 55:5; Acts 13:32-39) which has proved to be the greatest act of mercy by YHVH to humanity.

Pilate became Y’shua’s defence and paradoxically, his permitting the Crucifixion to go ahead did not change that.

His repetition THREE times (Jn 18:38,39; 19:4; 19:6), that in his judgment, he found “no fault at all” with “the King of the Jews,” a title he repeated SIX TIMES apparently without scepticism or sarcasm, coupled, in the Fear of God (Jn 19:7,8), and probably as a result of intense frustration, with his extraordinary gesture of empathy by testifying to the truth which the Jews could not rebut (Jn 19:33-38) by nailing the reality of Y’shua’s DEITY (“Y’shua Ha Notzri v’Melech Ha Yehudim” – Y’shua-Jesus of Nazareth/the Nazarene and King of the Jews) to the tree (above where our sins were nailed), left no-one under the illusion that the Jews had an open and shut case.

This was compounded by the maddened Jewish chief priests immediately discerning the 4 syllable Holy Acronym/Tetragrammaton YHVH [ Y (Y’shua) – H (Ha Notzri) – V (v’Melech) – H (Ha Yehudim) ] from Y’shua’s earlier declaration that “I and the Father are One” (Jn 5:18; 10:30,31), in the wording of what Pilate had written (or which he had had written) to immortalize the fact that neither he nor his court were UNCONVINCED by Y’shua’s description of Himself as the Son of God and King of a Kingdom not of this world (Jn 18:33-38; 19:7,8).

Pilot’s belief in Y’shua’s innocence was vindicated by the testimony of his centurion, witnessing His death accompanied by what were undeniably acts of God: “Truly, this was the Son of God” (Matt 27:50-54; Jn 19:7)

The chief priests must have howled in indignation as they demanded that the sign be rephrased SUBJECTIVELY, to the effect that Y’SHUA had said about Himself that He was King of the Jews; NOT that what was written was an objective statement of fact which validated the ACRONYM which declares to this day that Jesus IS God, the King and Master of the Universe.

Pilate flatly refused to budge, saying, “What I have written, I have written” (Jn 19:19-22).

YHVH used him as a scribe in that historic instant, to add weight to 1 Tim 3:16.

And so the truth prevails.

The Deity of Messiah is denied only by those who refuse the witness of John the Baptist; and Y’shua’s Father’s testimony (Jn 1:1; 5:31,32; 1 Jn 5:91 Tim 3:16).

All of this is anticipated in passages like Is 41:4,21,27 in the description of the Almighty, “the First and the Last,” as “King of Jacob” (and therefore King of the Jews), BEING the One given to Jerusalem for the Consolation of Israel and Redemption of Jerusalem and the world, by bringing “Glad Tidings of great joy which shall be to all people,” as “God with us,” Immanu El, as “a SIGN that shall be SPOKEN AGAINST” (Lk 1:68,78,79; 2:25,34; Rev 1:7,8,17,18).

The Lk 2:34b prophecy could apply equally to Is 7:13,14 (“a sign” to the House of David) and to the physical sign that Pilot erected over the Crucified Messiah which in different words, identified Him as no less than “the God of Israel, (AS) the Saviour” (Is 45:17-25).

HalleluYaH

Try as he may, knowing he was being  cornered, Pilate had valiantly probed the Accused for decisive exculpatory evidence (Jn 18:27,28; 19:9,10), to give Y’shua’s prosecutors AMPLE opportunity to heed it and backtrack, but even so, couldn’t obstruct justice (that is, the Judgment of the sins of the WORLD by Jesus our propitiation for sin) to change destiny, because Hebrew prophecy is pre-written history.

Jesus had to die.

And not just for the nation (Jn 11:47-53).

And it had to be by crucifixion not only because that form of death was prophesied, but because “It isn’t lawful for US to put ANY man to death” (Jn 18:31,32).

Despite his wife’s ongoing personal Christian testimony and her sufferings by the Spirit for “that JUST man”; and her warnings to Pilot to “have nothing to do with” convicting Him (Matt 27:19,24), knowing full well that He and His Kingdom were indeed not of this world (Matt 27:19; Jn 19:36), Pilot gave Y’shua’s marvellous but disturbing RETICENCE, as a Lamb silent before slaughter (Is 53:7; Matt 27:12-14), the benefit of the doubt, while in his (Pilot’s) heart, in a twist of irony, he did not consider it UNACCEPTABLE that by force of circumstance, he would not be executing a CRIMINAL.

Hindsight shows us Pilot faced a vexing problem of unprecedented complexity, an almighty enigma, which only a PROPHETIC decision could solve.

If ever there were a case that illustrates the mystery of the power of God to have its way, it is Pharoah’s recalcitrance (which made the Exodus possible) (Rom 9:15-21), and Pilot’s willingness to release Barabbas instead of Jesus, for “Christ our Passover” to be our Hope of glory (1 Cor 5:7,8; Col ).

The righteousness of the law of life UPON WHICH THE UNIVERSE’s existence depends, required a death that human jurisprudence lacked the tools to comprehend and justify.

Jesus’ trial before Pilot, was mankind’s trial before God, Jesus standing proxy for mankind’s trespasses, for God in the Messiah to reconcile the world to Himself through His Sacrifice of Himself as the cause for which He was made flesh and dwelt amongst us (2 Cor 5:19).

Guilty as charged, ALL having fallen short of the glory of YHVH, MANKIND’s continued existence demanded Jesus be “Ransom for all,” so that “one dying for all” would cancel the fact that “all were dead” (2 Cor 5:14).

Without realizing it, Pilot was wrestling with 2 Cor 5:21 in his Judgment Hall. “He Who knew no sin, was made to be sin for us, that we might be made the righteousness of YHVH in Him.”

A Roman found Him innocent, and Jewish law which found him guilty of breach of rabbinical doctrine couldn’t sentence Him to death (Jn 18:31; 19:6), so to quell tumult and looming riot (let alone fulfil prophecy), we could say that Pilate had to turn a blind eye to the truth, for original innocence and with it, “life and immortality to be brought to light” and restored to humanity “through the Gospel.”

Pilot was not flattering rabbinical law by executing their wishes and pandering to their jealousies.

In the moment, he was enacting Divine law.

His court was momentarily transmuted into the bar of Heaven.

At its core, Pilot’s decision was an evangelical necessity. “Behold the MAN!” (which rhymes with LAMB Who takes away the sins of the world), could be the opening line of the Gospel (Jn 19:5).

The characters of Judas and Pilot aren’t remotely comparable.

Judas’ ENTICEMENT and INDUCEMENT of the Jewish hierarchy to bribe him to identify and deliver Y’shua into confinement through a martial arrest (Matt 26:14-16), with no subsequent attempt on Judas’ part to truly repent and appeal for mercy (all he did was return the bribe then hang himself – Matt 27:1-10), has nothing in common with the dignity and equity of Roman law which under normal circumstances would never be thrown to the wind, to give an unsustainable verdict.

Pilot’s actions were in no way as incriminating as Judas’, who was consumed for his venality, as Herod was consumed by worms for his overweening pride and iniquity in failing to deflect credit to YHVH for his gift of oratory.

Pilot knew he was being blackmailed by the Jews’ hypocrisy (“THOU art not Caesar’s friend” and “WE have no king but Caesar” – Jn 19:12,15) but did not reach his final decision out of intimidation and cowardice through fear of Caesar, but because he emphatically believed that his deductions about the validity of the High Priest’s legal suit were more righteous than Jewish’s orthodoxy’s opportunistic arguments and allegations (“he MADE HIMSELF the Son of God,” which ironically has a double meaning which includes the description of the DEITY of Messiah as “a FORM of God” as described in Phil 2:6 and therefore as the One God of their ‘Shema’ – the last thing they would have wanted to vouchsafe).

So in reading this fascinating account of thoughtful Pilot over and over, we sense in his sincere solicitation of answers from both Jesus and His accusers, that he must surely have felt the power of YHVH as LawGiver and Judge operating on his soul, giving him the green light to commit Y’shua to his false accusers for Roman execution, DESPITE the merits of his own spirited defense of Y’shua’s innocence and integrity (Jn 18:38; 19:6,11), and therefore without his conscience condemning him.

It would be surprising therefore, if Pilot’s name is not written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

Given that those who die “the death of the righteous” (Nu 23:9) as the fathers and Moses and the Prophets did, and whose spirits live, “know as they are known,” one wonders how much of this background information, if any, “the two witnesses” Moses and Elijah, as prophets, were privy to ahead of time before being translated to the Mt of Transfiguration in glory to “speak of His (Jesus’) decease (death) which He should accomplish at Jerusalem” (Lk 9:31); and whether they knew that their dramatic 1260 days of evangelism of Jerusalem in sackcloth (this time Moses in full stature in Christ not needing Aaron as a crutch to speak truth to power – Ex 4:10-16,27-31) before dying for three and a half days and precipitating a costly earthquake (1/10th of the City devastated with 7 000 fatalities), would be decisive in helping bring Israel to their “fullness,” to trigger the Second Coming to fulfil Ex 6:7,8 in rememberance of His covenant with Abraham, by fervently recalling Y’shua to His City by blessing the One Who has come and will again come in the Name of YHVH  (Matt 5:35; 23:34-39; Rom 11:11-15,25-29; Rev 11:2-13).

So the first five chapters of Exodus with verse one of chapter 6 bridging this Portion and the next, establishes for the record what the historical conditions were, under which the grace which is YHVH’s prophecy to Abraham in Gen 15:13-16 regarding the great nation he would sire, would turn 400 years of affliction and “strangers in a land that is not theirs” (verse 13) into a wave of miraculous migration to REPATRIATE a set-apart household (the House of Jacob) forged in a crucible of hardship, to recover legal succession to the portion of the Earth’s surface which would become the most contested real estate in history.

And which only the irresistible force of awesome acts of God will resolve, by the return of the Messiah Whom MOSES (by prophesying “Hearken unto My Words which He shall speak in My Name” – Deut 18:19) expects to be the definitive Interpreter of the Torah which HE (Messiah) gave to Moses in the first place, in preparation for His coming, to teach us how to be conformed to His Image to fulfil the rôle of Torah which is to perfect a bride (Rom 8:4,29; 2 Tim 4:13-17).

Topic: From cradle to inheritance

Shabbat 18th December 2021 | Comment on Genesis 47-50

The future of the world was settled between YHVH’s prophecy to ABRAM in Gen 15:13-16 about “the fourth generation” of his seed which would make an Exodus; and His prophecy to JACOB in Gen 46:3&4 about the scale of that national Exodus, as described later in Deut 4:32-40.

One God. One household. One adopting nation. One church – “members of the same body” as the righteous remnant of the Tribes in antiquity (Acts 7:38; Eph 3:6). One faith. The Nazarene ‘sect’ entrusted with the knowledge of “the (uncompromised) Way which Y’shua would expound as Moses predicted (Deut 18:18,19; Acts 3:21-26; 24:5,14). One Messiah. One inheritance of the world, for it to be a world without end belonging to the heirs of the House of Jacob (Is 45:17-25; Rom 4:13,16).

Genesis 47 through 50 is the concentrated account and principal deposit in the Torah of YHVH’s prophetic decision, for the sake of HIS righteousness, to exalt the House of Jacob for whom He created the Universe (and setting Shabbat as the seal of their ORDER-in-election as firstborn and therefore of their PRIMACY of PURPOSE-in-election – Ex 31:13,16), for rulership of the world through the reign of the once- suffering, resurrected Messiah (Is 9:6,7; Lk 1:32,33; Mk 11:10) Whom Joseph foreshadowed as the ‘hidden one’ who was revealed to preserve THIS dynastic household, to be forever chief of nations.

It is said of Messiah and of those who obey Him, whose delight is in His law, that He is “not ashamed to call us brothers” (Heb 2:11; 5:9; 10:36; 1 Jn 2:28,29).

Joseph revealing himself to his eleven brothers AS A BROTHER in his father Jacob’s household (the household of YHVH), foreshadows Y’shua as LORD over all AND as the Brother Who rules IN JACOB, revealing himself to US in the same household through our adoption, to join and cleave to Jacob’s remnant (Ps 59:13; Rom 11).

Because of His total identification with humanity, it is not familiarity to call Y’shua ‘one of us,’ PROVIDED we are walking deferentially “in Him,” by keeping covenant to be established amongst the House of Jacob on the path to perfection of the love command, to be pure as He is pure, to be exalted “in thee (Jacob)” as seed of Abraham, in due time (Gen 28:14; Ex 19:5-8; Deut 7:6-15; 28:1-3,9; 26:16-19; 29:9,12-15; Lk 6:40; Col 1:22,23,28,29; 2:6; 4:12; 1 Jn 2:3-6,17,28,29; 3:3-10,24; 4:17; 5:2,3; 2 Jn 5&6)

Here, in Gen 49:10,24 (Is 49:5-8) we read how Messiah our hope of glory, formerly hidden in the Echad as the mystery of Godliness (Col 2:2; 1 Tim 3:16), is the Stone of Israel, the Shepherd and Helper of Jacob FROM “the Mighty One of Jacob,” Who would become the Head of the redeemed remnant of Jacob (forever the church of YHVH) and their co-heirs (Eph 2:11,12,19; Heb 12:23) as the prophecies spoken over each of the covenant sons of Jacob would play themselves out, to bring us to fulfilment of Matt 19:28 and Rev 21:12, which categorically affirm ownership of the FUTURE by the house of prayer for all nations (Is 56:6-8) which is methodically identified as the remnant of the household of Abraham reckoned through Isaac and then Jacob, to whom was entrusted the knowledge of the Way of YHVH which would become the Messianic faith of the nation of Israel (Gen 18:18,19; 26:5; Acts 7:38; Lk 1:33; Acts 24:14; Gal 3:29).

Jacob awaits fulfilment of the promise to him that the New Covenant will bring Israel to their fulness (Gen 28:14; Is 29:22-24; Lk 1:33; Rom 11) so that grandfather Abraham’s promise can be fulfilled by a faithful remnant of Israel, and from the nations (Gen 12:1-7; 18:18,19).

Gen 47-50 is rich testimony of YHVH’s love for the fathers (Rom 11:25-29), His assurance of their inheritance of the nations, in Messiah (Ps 2:7,8; Is 14:1; 54:3; 55:5; Zech 2:10-12; Eph 2:11,12; Rev 21:12), with the promise of restitution when all is said and done, when He glorifies His set apart nation in the sight of the world (Is 46:13; 60-62; Haggai 2:5-9; Lk 2:32).

None of the three fathers of the faith were ever left “destitute of mercy and truth” (Gen 24:27; 32:9,10), because their paths were illuminated and undergirded by intimate personal prophecy for the nation’s sake, for YHVH’s Name’s sake.

Likewise, all eleven sons of Jacob AND the house of Joseph (nominally represented by his two sons born in captivity) were recipients of detailed prophetic information upon which to rest themselves, going forward. Always helpful to have prophecy in order not to be tempted to lean unto one’s own understanding.

As adopted seed of Jacob, surnamed by the God-King of Jacob (Is 41:21,27; 45:4; Lk 1:33) OUR houses within the dynasty of Jacob, are no less eligible for Spirit-led reproof where necessary, and the necessary guidance to fulfil our household rôles in the glorification of the nation, its commonwealth and its church, as “one new man” (Eph 2:11,12,16,19; 5:26,27).

All of history is heading for exaltation of the more glorious latter house of Jacob (Haggai 2:5-9). It’s our spiritual home, for eternity (Lk 1:33).

These four chapters stand out as the strongest proof that YHVH is fittingly called the Helper of Jacob Whom WE too can trust to the uttermost at all times, for hope of realizing the promises made to the House of Jacob (Ps 146:5,10; Rom 15:8)

YHVH held Jacob’s hand to Mesopotamia and back, to prosper him with “witty (husbandry) inventions” (Gen 30&31; Prov 8:12) while producing the full slate of heirs who as the Twelve Patriarchs would shape the destiny of the world through their multiplication as a great nation, in Egypt.

By Voice instruction, Jacob was given the same Firsthand Divine Assurance to go down to Egypt to find sanctuary (Gen 46:3,4), as the Divine Authority (confirming his father’s instructions) that impelled him to leave Canaan in the first place all those years earlier (Gen 28:1-4,10-22) to seek his destiny through marriage, abiding faithfully in his uncle Laban’s household for 20 difficult years (Gen 31:41), his faith successfully tried waiting on YHVH for his appointed time of recall to his father Isaac’s household, with SAFE PASSAGE (Gen 31:1-13,29; 32:1,2,24-32).

And so Genesis sets us up for the greatest drama of NATIONAL preservation for infinite rewards, in all eternity. And they’re all especially credited to Jacob’s integrity and fortitude (Is 58:14).

We can choose to be part of it, to experience the redemption of our bodies by being righteous, blessing and not cursing the House of Jacob (Gen 12:2,3; 27:29; Rom 8:4,23), or renounce our graft into Y’shua’s household (Lk 1:33) and sever ourselves from the good olive tree by denying our adoption as Hebrews as Hebrew as “Abram the Hebrew” the father of our faith (Gen 14:13; Rom 11; Gal 3:29)

Weekly, using the ancient reading plan endorsed by the Messiah, we delve into the plumbline of the Torah and the Prophets as Y’shua-Jesus and Paul did (Matt 5:17-19; Acts 24:14; Rom 3:20b,31), to corroborate our interpretation of the New Testament, to ensure that we “fully know doctrine,” because only impartial study of the full counsel of the Word of YHVH can promise that our doctrine will be sound. And the doctrine according to Godliness is everything, if we desire to attain the unity of the faith (Eph 4:12-14,23,24; 2 Jn vs 5&6,9-11). This exciting discipline, essential for our ongoing sanctification by the truth (Jn 17:17,19; Acts 20:25-32; 26:18,20; 1Thess 5:23; 2 Thess 2:13,14) by greatly increasing our familiarity with and respect for the Hebrew Scriptures with constant use by its application by the Spirit, to be fully assured that we are grounded in truth and righteousness, has been described as ‘the Berean test’ (Acts 17:11; 2 Cor 13:1,5; 2 Tim 3:10,14-17).
